I need to be able to use YUY for capture (VT1.52), but would like to be able to play GPL which requires the latest drivers. Can you mix the two? I know that Matrox says that they require the latest VT with the latest drivers. Fact or fiction?

Tried it out and it seems to work so far. Don't know about any long term repercusions. I wouldn't think that it would physically damage the card in any way. Ciao, i'm from Italy, excuse for my bad english: yesterday night i installed the last drivers for Win9x, and following, the vtools 1.52, for using yuy2 capture mode with my RRG: when start, the installation told me does'nt fint powerdesk installed on the System and suggest me to install before installing Video tools. After 2 or 3 times i retried, i uninstall the last driver, and reinstall the 5.52 version, and following the Video tools 1.52 installation ended fine.
Do i missed something?pillo il ciappinaro

Yes, i would also like to know hoe you manage to install 1.52 on top of 6.x drivers. Or is the idea that you do not uninstall them before installing 6.x on top of 5.52?

I am using PD 5.55.022 and VT 1.52. I don't see the 6.xx version on the website anywhere. Are we all talking about the Marvel G400? Old topic - New question:
I tried to install PowerDesk 6.10 (after an uninstallation of the older PD5.41/VT1.52 combination, with the Matrox Uninstaller)
When I tried to reinstall VT 1.52, over the new PD6.10, I've got the following message:
"...Matrox PowerDesk software isn't detected on your computer. Setup can't continue.
Before restarting this program, install the latest version of Matrox PowerDesk for your graphic card. You can find this software on your Matrox CD-ROM or on the Matrox Web site (www.matrox.com/mga)..."
Any comments? Ideas?
BTW, I asked this question at another Matrox Forum too... (...if someone is wondering...)It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings...

To use VT 1.52 + PD 610:
Step 1 Install PD 5.41
Step 2 Install VT 1.52
step 3 Install PD 6.10 without uninstalling PD 5.41!!
Step 4 Enjoy!
Note: this did work on my setup BUT only after i had purged my system of DX 8!!

Technoid, thanks.
Ok about Dirx8, I never installed it.
I'll try to install PD 6.10 again, following your advice.
BTW, the answer from Matrox is this:
--------------------------
"The correct combination to use are the 5.55 Display drivers and the 1.54 Vidtools.
The Vidtools are made to be used with certain drivers this is why you could not use the 6.10 with the 1.52. the 1.52 work with the 5.41."
------------------
They say PD6.10 supports Marvel G400 "only the graphic part"

OK I found the 610 drivers. I followed Technoid's advice and all is good. I do seem to be having some problems using the YUY2 hack. My video looks a little in the blocky side and it stutters. MJPEG looks great after I adjusted the quality setting to 84 in the registry. I might just go with the new PD too. The only advantage I see in using huff is recompressing it to MPEG or another format. I guess I am just getting tired of dorking around with different settings and hacks everytime I try to do anything.
Is there any advantage to the new PD 1.54 over 1.52?WinXP Pro SP2 ABIT IC7 Intel P4 3.0E 1024M Corsair PC3200 DCDDR ATI AIW x800XT 2 Samsung SV1204H 120G HDs AudioTrak Prodigy 7.1 3Com NIC Cendyne DVR-105 DVD burner LG DVD/CD-RW burner Fortron FSP-300-60ATV PSU Cooled by Zalman Altec Lansing MX-5021

Sciascia, the VT 1.54 has a broken YUY2 support. Tried it (+ PD 5.55) with Win ME and I am back & happy again with Win 98 SE AND VT 1.52 (+ PD 6.10)
...but let the experts talk, about the +/-.

I read somewhere that PD 1.54 was broken (YUY) so I never installed it. What I want to figure out now is whether or not I should just go with MJPEG all the time. With the quality cranked up it looks awefully good. Half of the time I use Huff lately I get a mess of odd colors, no real video, just noise and when I do get it to capture correctly, it really doesn't look much better. Recompression to MPEG2 is going to be the determining factor. If I can get a good transfer from MJPEG to MPEG2, then I'll probably just stick with it.WinXP Pro SP2 ABIT IC7 Intel P4 3.0E 1024M Corsair PC3200 DCDDR ATI AIW x800XT 2 Samsung SV1204H 120G HDs AudioTrak Prodigy 7.1 3Com NIC Cendyne DVR-105 DVD burner LG DVD/CD-RW burner Fortron FSP-300-60ATV PSU Cooled by Zalman Altec Lansing MX-5021
