  • What video card for RTX100?

I'm using my Matrox RTX100 with the old custom G400 that came with an RT2000. When I upgrade to Premiere Pro, I will have to change the OS to WinXPPro, and I'm concerned that there won't be dual-head support for the G400.

So, what card should I replace it with?
I run two CRT's (DVI someday, but not yet).
I'd like to be able to run different resolutions on the two monitors.
I run my TV monitor off the X100 Breakout Box, so I do not need a three-head card.
This is a dedicated video box for Premiere/AfterFX, so I don't need heavy-duty 3D game functions at this point.
The P-650 would be the best choice for me in the Matrox line, but would I be better off with an ATI Radeon?
(I've also heard that NVidia cards don't work well with the RTX100 drivers--is this true?)

Oh, and are the newer cards compatible with the AGP voltage on my old K7S5A mobo, as I'd prefer not to upgrade it yet?

    TIA,

Well the P-650 or P750 would be your best bet, they are relatively cheap with great multi display support, in fact Matrox to date has the best dual/triple head implementation in terms of features and quality output.

Please note that your Matrox G400 will still work with dual head fully functional under Windows XP, so I would suggest you try it first, see how it runs before you upgrade.

      Elie:
Thanks for the reply. I have dual-head W2K drivers (found in some dark corner of the Matrox website)--will they work for XP?
As you know, the RT2K version of the G400 doesn't use same drivers as other G400's.

Windows XP has it's own drivers for G400.

However yes the Windows 2000 driver "Should" work for Windows XP.

If all fails of coarse you can go out and purchase a new dual head video card of your choice, it doesn't hurt to try.

Matrox has full set of drivers for G-cards.

The XP drivers for G550 (identical architecture as G400) works perfectly. Newest drivers are 5.89. they work well, very stable.

Yeah, but you can't beat the ability of the P-750 to use up to triplehead PLUS the RT.X100's DirectShow analog output.

You just gotta see one of these running with FOUR displays

Dr. M: Thanks for the reply.

I have (and need) only 2 RGB monitors, plus a cheap TV connected to the X100 BOB through an SVHS VCR. I don't need Photoshop WYSIWYG, although AfterFX WYSIWYG would be nice. Is there _any_ advantage to using the TV out on the high end Matrox cards instead of the BOB? (There were rumors that output image quality suffered with the RT2K's BOB).

Also, can I have two independent desktops or just an extended desktop with independent resolutions with the P650?
