  • RT2000- DVDmax with Win ME???

    Hi,
I know about the profile work around for enabling dvdmax on Win98. However on 'upgrading' to Win ME it no longer works.

In creating a dvdmax profile you disable the matrox loader in the hardware profiles. Well with Win ME you have to go to start bar/run/msconfig/ start up prgrams, and untick the matrox loader there as well.

This gets dvd max going fine (how i love my dvd's :O)
but... it has to reboot.. then to use the rt2000 again i have untick it and reboot again..

The choice of profiles with win 98
    1:dvd max
    2:rt2000

    was a lot less bother...

    So can anyone help???

    Thanks,

    Colin Blakeston

Actually I tried it as well and the multi profile thing in WinME didn't work either, it produced very different results, weird indeed.
However, I'm not gonna let this beat me so I'll try and see what happens, in fact I'll call Microsoft if I have to!

Cheers Elie, Knew i could depend on you!!

I read somewhere where rebooting in 24bit colour could do the job. Cause RT2000 loader only loads if its in 16 or 32bit, if its in 24, it doesnt load.. hence dvd max works.

Dont know if its true cos i spent all afternoon switching back to win98se

          OK
          good news.
          Im running Win98SE

and if i load my RT2000 profile, everything enabled. and try to run dvdmax, or zoom, then it says (blah blah allready in use)

right.. if i swith to 24bit colourdepth and click restart with changes,
it restarts and on playing a file, DVDmax works, repeat.. DVD MAX WORKS cool!!!

if i try to use the zoom feature it says cant be supported in 24bit color depth.
so if you switch to 16bit color depth and click apply changes WITHOUT restarting, then everything it works, its just a regular G400 WOOHOO!!!!!

and a reboot later and your set for editing.

I know its not a perfect soloution, but its one i can live with, and at least as good as the profile switch... hey.. thinking about it, couldnt you set up a profile with 16bit color and one with 24bit.. that could let you pick without rebooting!! WOOHOO

just one thing.. Elie.. could you try this with Windows ME please.. if it works then im all set to a full reinstall (last time i upgraded to ME from 98se)
          with WIN ME.

cant wait to here the results..
If it works, then we can post it on the matrox tips board!! cool

Thanks for your time Elie, cant wait to here back from you..

Well, what can I say CMB, thanks to that tip of yours looks like things worked around here!
So here's the scoop, you launch WinME, set the G400 to 24 bit colour, DVD Max worked, I then switch the colour depth back to 16 bit and DVD Max still worked fine, I even ran a DVD my favourite (X-Men) and no problems at all.

Now, whiile I was in 16 bit colour, I thought let's reboot to try editing with the RT2000 and all was ok!
Right after editing, I switched back to 24 bit to try out DVD Max and the output got screwed, I then rebooted but left WinME at 24bit and DVD Max worked again.

I tried setting up different profiles, one called RT2000 with 16 bit colour depth, and the other called DVD Max with 24 bit colour depth, and WinME was able to boot to either profile with the proper colour depths no problems.

So heres what needs to be done in order to switch between RT2K and DVD Max...

1-boot up WinME and create a profile just like I once mentioned, except only modify colour depths, do not disable RT2000 loader.

2-Set the DVD Max profile to 24 bit and the RT2000 to 16 bit.

Now boot in between the profiles and watch your DVD Movies through the BOB

NOTE: Once your in the DVD Max profile (24 bit) you can change colour depths at your discretion, basically the G400 Flex 3D will act just like a G400 as you mentioned

            Regards,
            Elie

Another note: if you boot to a DVD Max profile with a colour depth of 24 bit, and decided to chane it to 16 or 32 bit, you MUST switch back to 24 bit before you shut down the PC otherwise the next time you boot into the DVD Max profile it'll keep the colour depth you were last using.

              Cheers,
              Elie
