  • Choosing a Capture Card

Okay, so far I'm thinking about getting either G200 TV PCI or the Rainbow Runner G-Series.

    I'm running a:
    Intel P3 @ 800MHz
    256MB PC133 Micron RAM
IBM 9NES Ultra 2 HDD (SCSI)
    SeaGate X15 Ultra 160 18GB (SCSI)
    Xitel PCI Sound Card
    Matrox G400 MAX 32MB
    Win98 SE

As you can tell, it's a nice setup, and I'm more than likely to be able to catch anything that these capture cards can throw at me.
My question is: Which card is better? I know they both have the same Zoran chipset, but I've heard some differences in opinion.
Also, are there any other cards in the sub-$150 (new or used) that'll give me the same performance and quality?
I'm mostly looking for a solid and stable card that I can capture with at high resolutions (NTSC and up). Software bundles don't matter, I can get them from work if need be.
If anyone knows where to buy Rainbow Runner for less than $150 (other than eBay, etc.), and it is in stock, please let me know.
    Any ideas?

Since you already have a G400 MAX dualhead display card that, IMHO, makes the most reasonable and affordable option a Hauppage WinTV PCI. This way you keep the speed and dualhead (for TV out) of the MAX and still can capture video with a TV tuner.

With this you could capture with any softcodec you want (PICVideo MJPeg, HuffYUV or even MPEG with the right editor) and be able to output about any video format you want to tht TV out using DVDMax.
