Especially since 2 layer 8.5g DVD-R/+R burners/discs are on the way. Both should arrive around Q2-Q3 2004.

Does that mean you will need a new DVD burner to read the dual layer discs? Or will you be able to use the current crop of DVD burners?

All DVD players/drives READ dual layer. I think it is part of the original DVD spec.

MMM is right, as far as commercial DVDs are concerned. I have very strong doubts about whether they will resolve the smaller contrast differences of DL DVD±Rs and, even less, RWs, though. Wait and see!

IMO compatability will always be an issue until all DVD decks have DVD-R/DVD+R compatabile chipsets.

That said it'll sure make it easier to get high quality and 120 minutes of content at once.
