  • virtualdub and dv video?

    Hi everyone ...
Is there any way to use the dv "codec" with virtualdub?

Only DV type1, which uses Video for Windows is limited to a 2 gig file. VirtualDUB is a Video for Windows app.

    DV type 2 uses DirectShow.

I did some research and found a direct show filter, called Panasonic vfw or something.
It supposed to do the trick with the type 2.
      Any experiences with it?

        Hi,
i believe it's the opposite of what Doc said (correct me if i stand wrong), DV type1 uses directshow and that's why vdub can not play back the sound of such clips. DV type2 is vfw based and vdub has no problem playing such clips, however a codec is required for dv-type2. I always use DV-type2 with Mainconcept's codec (since in editing it is supposed to give beter quality than Microsoft's DV-type1 filters.)

This sounds right ... when i open a dv type 1 file vdub told me that he can't handle sound ... so i think your're right.

            I stand corrected.

I had a rugrat circling my feet when I wrote that and transposed my thoughts. Funny how that happens

Type2 is VfW and limited in size while Type1 is OpenDML/DirectShow and virtually unlimited.

Well ... this sucks i think. Mainconcept codec isn't type 2 and microsoft type 1? I'm currently using microsoft codec but i'm also considering mainconcept for better quality.
