  • MSP7 Joining and editing clips

    Hi,

    Three problems..

I have MSP7 and in Video Editing of that program I have several video clips I have inserted into the same channel.. Va.

I need to join them all together so they become 1 permenant clip. At the moment they are still in sections and when it is easier to move them as 1 unit rather than keep 'selecting' them all.

In another project I have split the audio from the video and replaced it. I need to now attach it the new audio to that video so they become one. At the moment I cannot move it without losing sync.

    Lastly..

I need to insert a video/audio clip 'in front of' clips I already have starting at 00.00 in a project.

What is the best way to do this?

I will need to move all the current clips together with their trans, titles etc., so everything stays in sync.

I know I can create a video of this project then open another project and bring the other video in, but I would prefer to have all the elements available top me in case I need to change anything.

    Thanks

    1. you can group clips to make them more convenient to move on the timeline. It's in the Edit menu.

    2. if you have your export and project settings set correctly you can export the collection as a new video clip without re-compressing it. This would give you your "permanent" clip.

    3. you can insert a new sequence before the rest of a project using either single or multiple track ripple. If only a single track is being used (ex: Va) then single track ripple is the ticket, but if you're using multiple tracks (video on Va and Vb and/or overlay tracks) then multiple track ripple is in order. These are both located on the timeline toolbar and in the Edit menu.

        Doc is right.

Another point you may wish to consider is to Create a new video file from all or part of your project. This new file will then be a single clip with video and audio, as you previously edited it. If it's all done in DV or HuffYUV, it will be quasi-lossless.

          Cool,

That's what I thought I'd do, but then thought if I neeed to change anything in the first clip, I could still do it in the project but once it was a full avi then I was limited.

Still I can see the sense in doing what you suggest so I guess I have to make sure it is all okay for adding to a new project later.

          Thanks

"Changing anything in the first clip" meaning what?

You can use the scissors to put a cut at the end of that segment and trim it if you like. You can also add a video filter to just a cut segment of a clip.

BY 'first clip' I meant the finished avi that would be the total of about 20 clips etc I have which would be created from the first project.

The second project would have its own clips that I have already inserted.

I would then insert the avi clip from project 1 and that would give me the total project I would need to create my total avi.

Struth!! I'm getting confused even saying it.

I 'm sure you get my drift.
