Sounds like a basic OHCI firewire card and software. IF its the same as I saw in Best buy recently, it has either Video Studio 4 or MGI Video Wave, I forget, or worse their own software.

These generic cards and lame app should be no more than about $50-60.

For about the same price or less ($99 at my local Microcenter, less on the web) you can get the ADS PyroDV with Ulead Media Studio Pro 6.0ve. A much better editing software package IMHO. Video Studio 4 is included too if you want a lame editor that wastes display pixels with useless graphic doodads.

Dazzle is making a much more interesting product with the DV.now.AV. It's a DV card with both IEEE-1394 and analog inputs and outputs.

This opens up using VHS, SVHS, V8/Hi8 and TV tuner sources in DV projects. It also can record to tape decks in one step instead of having to send the project back to DV tape then to a deck from the cam.

Yes I looked at it. I was put off while browsing the the Dazzle web site by the fact they want to charge $30 for the "fixed" version of their "MovieStar ver 4.21" software. This is 10% (or more) of the product's price! Why didn't they ship it with working software initially?

The existance of w2k drivers is not obvious either. I won't spend a dime on anything without w2k support no matter how "interesting" it might be.

I asked about Dazzle/FAST DVnow.AV and w2k on rec.video.desktop and got zero replies.

Microsoft "Wistler" is comming -- like or not. Stuff without working w2k drivers now is likely to be an orphan product later! Buyer Beware!

            Thanks Doc.

I didn't see a link to this european site from the US site that www.videoguys.com sent me to. Vidoeguys said "w2k drivers are under development".

Since I'm short of slots analog capture and firewire on one card would be great, and the possibility of DV output to tape without tying up my camcorder, throw in full premiere, and it makes this quite compelling.

Almost sounds too good to be true, thus I wait for some info from other users before buying it.

              Doc,

One other thing. I've not had the chance to use any miniDV camcorders only three models of Sony D8. These all (NTSC) can send firewire to analog on the fly without recording to tape. Works great but the one I have can't do the reverse for analog. The newer ones can, but you have to manually change the direction with a menu selection which is a minor PITA.

I want to upgrade to a 3-CCD model and I have a potential buyer for my D8 but if a GL-1 won't let me output to tape I'll need to hang onto my D8 or buy something like this FAST DV.now.AV
