Matrox RT2000 and MPEG2 IBP

<font size=3>RT2000 and a Dell Dimension 4100 (256 MB RAM, 1 GHz Processor)





I just got my RT2000 a few weeks ago and it works great. Installation on my
Windows ME system went well. The RT2000 MEGA Pack installation was also easy.
My only problem, I cannot capture video using the MPEG2-IBP
driver because I don't have a motherboard that supports an AGP aperture size of 128 MB.
(The latest version of the Dell Dimension BIOS fix does not correct this problem)





I can capture video using the MPEG2 I-Frame drivers but even at a data transfer rate of
2 Mbits/sec DVDit will not create a DVD Folder or Disc. I get an error message stating that
my Transfer Rate is too high and that I need to lower it prior to DVDit being able to create VOB
files.





Hopefully I don't sound too stupid, but this is all new to me. Does anyone know of a way around this
problem? Is there another software package (other than DVDit) that can create VOB files for DVD
from MPEG2 I-FRAME captured video at 7-9 Mbits/sec?

Hopfully you have registered your RT2000 with Matrox, because there you can download the fix that will allow a machine with an AGP setting of 64 to export and capture IBP.

Are you runninng MVT 1.0 SP3 or MVT 2.0?
Apperantly the fix doesn't work too well in systems with a max of 64 mb AGP and MVT 2.0, but try it anyway.
What Mobo does the DELL use?? It's gotta be a board based on the 815 chipset right?

Time to nail down one of those P3B-F's that seem to work so well with the RT-2000. It seems I can do anything to mine and it just refuses to stop working

Shared IRQ's, NIC not disabled...whatever. I even left my email running once during a capture and it didn't miss a beat when some came in.

I love that card. It's making it very hard to attempt an "upgrade".

a bit off topic but..... Doc I can't find a P3BF would a cubx be a good alternative?
would it support IBP capture?

The BX chipset in general supports up to 256mb AGP aperture size, so IBP exports would work.

It's only those dreaded i815 chipsets that are causing problems. People have found ways around the limitation, heres a post from one individule who claims he found a work around...

The only thing is the export on MPEG2-IBP, but there's a solution of course to solve this problem:
First make your work and export to your DV device.
second import on Y/C into premiere with MPEG2-IBP option.
Third : save and import on DVDIT
It works fine for me ..."

Now that's a long proccess I don't know if you want to go through all that, sooo I'd say get a BX based board I like the following Asus mobos...

1-P2B
2-P2B-D/P2B-DS
3-P2B-F
4-P3B-F
5-CUBX
Doc if you have any other boards you recommend, go for it.

Note: Matrox is working on a new memory management system which will be available in the new MVT 3.0 when it's released.

That list looks pretty good to me Elie. I might just add the ABIT KT7a KT133A board (non-raid. Don't like HighPoints RAID chipset). Combined with a fat TBird this looks like a goodie.

Thanks for all of your help. I do have an Intel 815E Chipset. Intel told me to contact Dell. Dell's latest release does not do the trick. Looks like I will be buying a new system or replacing my motherboard.

I'll assume that the CUBX would be the best choice if I need 6 pci and an isa and thought I'd stay w/PIII

The CUBX works great for me (after wrestling with an CUSL2 - and giving up).

I haven't had any reason to try IBP capture yet, but I think it should work fine(everything else does).
