  • audio problems.

Suddenly mediaplayer (and all products relying on it) stopped playing sound.

It DOES try to download a codec, but nothing happens.
It cant play ANY sound. Not even sounds and videos it has played for ages (and not even the "let me show you how mediaplayer 9 works" demoes at microsoft).

Realplayer works like a charm, as does winamp.

I have reinstalled drivers for my soundcard (hercules gametheater xp), even updated to mediaplayer9 (whic I now regret - and it didnt help a thing).

Whys the "!!#@!! isnt there a button that says "reset".

Help me dear murcers, You are my only hope!

Have you tried going into Control Panel|Sounds and Audio Devices and checking you have the right audio card showing under both the Audio and Voice tabs? There is even a Test hardware button you may wish to try.

      Yes I have.
      Theres ample system sound.
      Everything checks out peachy.

Its only when playing movies in mediaplayer or any other player that uses the mediaplayer library.

It must somehow be due to misregistred codecs or somesuch.

      Im at a loss.

I need a program that can unregistre and delete all codecs - so I can reinstall them properly.
(I have tried to reinstall Intel Indio codecs, no change).

        Problem solved.

I havent got a clue what made it work.
I did follow some vague sugestions about rename some of the wmp*.* files and reinstalling wmp9.0. I dont think it was this, tho - it was deffinitely something I did while screwing around with the settings.

        Ho-hum.

The old merry days of Dos gaming. At least I knew my irq's.
