  • Weird MPG playback problem

OK here is a weird one.
    I have a 352 x 288 avi, 35 megs it plays well.
BUT turn it to a .mpg file using either LSX (early version), or Avi2mpeg and - m
    a) It only reduces to 11.5 megs? Not the usual average 7:1 ratio?
    b) (the seious bit)It WON'T play smoothely if at all?

It can't be the drive speed limit (3 megs/sec), as the avi file plays smoothly.

Some file info. The Movie is Black/White, has many fades and sound was set low at 96 instead of 128.
Frame count 1187, time - 47 secs long.

Any ideas chaps, I would use the avi file, but I need to save space on this video CD project.

A quick reply to myself so that others may learn.

Interestingly the mpg not playing problem, dissapeared after I set the mpg bitrate conversion down to 150 from 200. I have never had to do that before?

Also reducing the bitrate from 200 down to 150 and upping the audio rate from 96 up to 128, reduced the file size from 11.5 megs down to 6.7 megs, which to me does not seem to add up.

Oh well it all works now, but I would appreciate any comments on what 'may' have been the problem please - any takers?
