  • Why is TMPGEnc 'skipping' frames?

I'm getting jerky motion with TMPGEnc rendered MPEG2 files. For example, if the camera is panning or zooming, there will be jerkiness every 1/2 a second or so (irregular intervals) as though frames are being skipped. Here's what I did:

    1. Capture Matrox MJPEG video using AVI_IO with zero dropped frames

    2. The MJPEG plays back perfectly smoothly in Mediaplayer

    3. Use VirtualDub to serve frames to TMPGEnc using the Smart-deinterlace filter.

    4. The resulting MPEG2 is jerky, although the picture quality is very nice. (bitrate 7000)

    Why?

Need more info than that to figure out a playback problem.

What are your system specs? CPU + speed, mainboard, memory, drive used for playing it, Windows version, MediaPlayer version etc.

Also what were the encoding factors other than the bitrate? CBR? VBR? MVBR? IBP settings? Frame size of the capture & rendered MPEG? etc. etc.
