  • Is this Marvel really dying?

I'll keep this as short as possible. Two weeks ago, my Marvel G200 started to show hick-ups after I replaced my Promise Ultra33 with an Ultra100. Going back to the Ultra33 didn't work. There is no IRQ sharing and there has never been. As soon as I remove the Ultra100/33 and have the video play from the C-drive everything seems fine.

So I did a re-install of W98SE, OK. I install the Marvel drivers and the videotools, OK. Then I insert the Ultra100 and install its drivers, OK. I can acces the drive attached to the Ultra100 at it's full speed. IRQ's for the Marvel and the Ultra100 are 11 and 10 respectively, with no sharing, so this seems OK too. But as soon as I want to play with either MS media player or PCVCR, the system freezes and has to be rebooted, so NOT OK. This is a fresh install!

After I removed the Ultra100 card, there is only the soundblaster AWE32 (ISA) left in the case. And again I am not able to play my video!

So I took the card to my work and installed it, together with the Ultra100 on an Asus LX-based mobo. This system was supplied with WIN98 (regular) and the video played fine! And now there was even IRQ sharing with the NIC that was in the first PCI slot.

So I removed the drive, knowing that the hardware was OK, and replaced it with an empty drive. After installing WIN98SE again, I was only able to find that every bit of the installation went fine, but that again, PCVCR would freeze.

I am really beginning to think that my MarvelG200 is slowly dying. I just don't understand. The card has always worked fine, and installation of WIN95B,95C,NT,98,98SE, has never been a problem, but now it just won't.

I am using the 1.52 tools with the 5.41(?) drivers. Using an EPOX LX-based mobo with 333A celeron.

    Can someone PLEEEEZE help me....

What version of DirextX are you using?.. because I have this problem... so I used DirextX Uninstaller and uninstalled DirextX8 and then installed DIREXTX7 and all was fine... for me this happened when I went back to PD 5.4x from 5.55.. you might want to give that a shot if you're using DirextX8..

I was using DX7a with PD5.41 and vidtools 1.52. All was working until a few weeks ago.

I tried to install DX8 hoping this would make a difference, but no luck.

I just was able to get things running with an WIN98 installation, why doesn't WIN98SE work anymore?
