  • What the --- Superbowl Replays --- Huh?

    Hello all,

I've seen Enemy of the State, and remember shaking my head at the lame "technology" that allowed the investigators to "rotate" the video to look at another side of an object captured by the security camera. Impossible, I thought...

... but how in the world did they succeed in doing the impossible for the Superbowl replays??

I didn't catch the first half of the game. Was the camera setup explained? Was it dozens of cameras coupled with computer interpolation?

I tell ya, Baltimore's defence may be amazing, but the replays are what defy the laws of physics...

No. Not on the feed I saw here in NZ via ESPN. But it was a great technology. Sort of like mixing all the camera feeds into a fast computer and using a game like joystick to do the fly round. It had that game animation look about it.

If any one else knows it would be interesting

They did it the same way it was done in The Matrix: the "bullet time" technique.

They had cameras mounted all around the field and sequentially timed their shooting to get the effect. By shooting several sequences through the whole play and using some steering technology they were able to keep the ball in the field of view at all times.

Add some custom hardware & software and you have an instant replay of a whole new order.

They explained the technology during the pregame show that was on CBS.

Is it just me? But I thought "Eye Cam" stunk, I mean it made live action look like a playstation. I hated every second of it!
