gasp: yeah, i'd expect a few frames to drop, no big deal, but the exact same compression setting behave completely differently depending on if I record manually versus if I let VDVR do it.
I don't use hufyuv, or mjpeg either.. I am fine capturing to M$ mpeg4 v1 which like I said, drops ZERO frames when I set it off myself. I just want to capture some TV shows for later use.. HIGH quality isn't an issue.

Oh, and as for previous comments:
PC-VCR works great, but absolutely pointless for PVR use... I dohn't want to have to connect to my machine EVERY time there's a show I want to capture.
And as for getting a Hauppauge, I'm using stuff I have so I don't have to buy another card.. as if enough wasn't spent on Matrox's ghetto gear as it is
I'm running an ATI AIW 8500DV on my other machine and it just work fine with the Gemstar Guide Plus software.
