Adobe Premiere 5.1c ----> AVISynth ----> TMPGEnc12a, Help needed

Hi all,

I would like to know (preferably in step by step directions) how I can send a file through Premiere 5.1c to TMPGEnc12a using AVISynth plugin for Premiere.

So far I have got the file being served from Premiere via AVISynth and if I play the file it works, but I can't seem to get TMPGEnc to encode this file straight into MPEG 1/2 (Which I would like to do).

Any help anyone can give is very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The organized way to do it;

1. make sure you have the VFAPI plugin installed in TMPGEnc and that both the CM-AVISynth.prm and IM-AVISynth.prm plugins are installed in Premiere's PLUG-INS folder.

2. Start TMPGEnc before starting the AVISynth plugin.

3. when you export the project choose the "Link to AVISynth" option in Premieres Export Movie/General Settings/Filetype dialog.

2. copy the command line given you by the plugin to a text file.

typically: IPCSource("filename.avi0")

3. save this text file using the same name as the one you gave the *.avi in the save dialog, but using the *.avs extension.

ex:

video file name: filename.avi

AVISynth script: filename.avs

Doublecheck that Notepad saved this as filename.avs and not filename.avs.txt. This is a very common reason why the *.avs file won't show up in TMPGEnc's load dialog.

4. load the *.avs file into TMPGEnc.

3. do your settings in TMPGEnc and encode.

4. when TMPGEnc stops press the "Stop Serving" button on the AVISynth dialog.

Unfortunately, I am having a problem completing these steps. When I load the *.avs into TMPGEnc it locks up. So do you or anyone else have any suggestions as to how to fix this?

Locks up 'eh? Haven't had that problem in all the time I've been using it. Are you sure you have the VFAPI resource installed properly? If not try reinstalling it.

Well in Win98Se it doesn't work (so far) but in 2k it does. Thanks for the step by step walk through, I really appreciate it.

Also interesting. Win98SE works here fine. I'd be very curious about what the cause is. Drop me a note if you ever find out why so I can put in my dbase.

Still freezing in Win98SE. I reinstalled all of TMPGEnc12a (program, then english patch, then VFAPI file) and it still crashes when I try to load in the *.avs file. In Win2k it seems it crashes part way through the file serving. Could you or anyone else help me resolve this problem.

Here are some "shotgun" ideas. Try 'em one at a time.

1. make sure you have "all files" selected in the load dialog.

2. go to Global Settings/VFAPI Plugins and turn off the DVD2AVI filter.

3. the DirectShow filter can also be problematic.

4. a mismatch between the VFAPI version and the AVISynth version. I'd not use the 1.0 VFAPI beta with the 12a version of TMPGEnc and VFAPI 0.11.20.98. Use version 0.3.

If you do get it working here's another tip;

make sure the audio settings in the Premiere (or Flask) project are the same as those in TMPGEnc. Otherwise you'll get distortions.

Help me Dr Modrid,
I'm from Italy so excuse me for my bad english:
I follow your instructions step by step (almost i think so), but when i try to load the avs file in TMPGenc 12a, the program doesn't recognize the file as an AVS valid one (i don't remember well the message it prompts me, but the meaning is that); i check the sequence many times, but nothing get better.
Could you or anyone suggest me what i'm missing ?

I'm assuming you have had TMPGEnc running before telling Premiere to "link to avisynth" and getting the command line?

Also doublecheck the filename of the script. Notepad very often saves it as filename.avs.txt.

Hi Doctor :
I retry the commands sequence, paying attention to launch TMPGEnc before starting the Avisynth plugin inside Premiere, but when i try to load the AVS file in TMPEnc i get the following message 'File "[AV Sfile]" cannot open or unsupported.'
I also check that The Avs file had only the .avs extention;
I try to uninstall and reinstall the TMPEnc-readavs plugin but nothing change.
Any other suggestions/ideas ?
