Yes I've read it somewhere too. I also remember some date at the end of february but I don't remember if it's an official drive release or RW standard approvement. I'll rather wait for RW capable (fabrique) "version" of drives.
I'm using a RW media for testing purposes. I suppose to use it mainly for DVD-video. Data only as DVD-ROM. I hate packed writing sofwares...

Is there much of a market in Video-to-DVD conversion? In other words, if I buy the new drive to burn DVD's from my home videos is there an opportunity to make money by advertising to do other conversions as well? (I already have an RT2000) I was just wondering if the market is already saturated with companies that do this or not.

Not for a reasonable price. A generic burn to DVD costs well over $130 here. With the $10 media cost they are talking about someone's going to make out undercutting those guys who have $5000 players to pay off.

Those prices Doc remind me of several years ago guys went around with a portable CD writer and charged about $300 to back up your vital files PC files to CDR. Now thay charge $25 for the same service. DVD will go the same way..

Definitely. Once DVD burning takes off (and some DVD burnable format will take off) I expect we'll see single digit media prices in short order, not to mention a precipitous drop in the cost of the decks.

Also, remember the "X" war in CD-R burners? 2x begot 4x begot 12x.... Same thing coming with DVD-R.
