Are delays normal between VCD tracks when playing disc?

I made a multi-track (multiple MPG files) VCD that plays great in my Pioneer 414 DVD player. The only thing is that the player will freeze the last frame of the first track for about 10 seconds before playing the next track. Is this just a limitation of the DVD player or is it because I didn't make the VCD correctly? Ideally, the transitions between tracks should be seamless, just like DVD. (I used CeQuadrat Videopack 4.0)

I haven't used CeQuadrat to author yet, but there should be a setting on each play item to specify the delay time between tracks. There will still be a little pause between tracks though. The best way to do this is to join your mpegs into one track, then author your title with different play items (these are just pointers that you can assign functions to) pointing to different times in the track. I am not sure if CeQuadrat will let you do this, but I-Author will (for SVCD).

i use easy cd creator and when i play vcds back on my apex 600a, they move to the next track seamlessly.... so it might be a player problem if you can't seem to find any different options when burning the cd. Good luck

VP4 has an option in each of its nodes for time to pause after track plays.
By default it is something like 5 or 10 seconds, and you have to visit
each node and set it. Nero has the same, but easier to change
(just highlight all tracks and set Properties).
But, even when I set 0 seconds my (Philips 825) player
pauses between tracks. Maybe burning the CD Disk-At-Once
would eliminate this, have not tried it.

In my experience, burning 'Disc-At-Once' does indeed solve the gaps between tracks problem.

Interesting... I never thought about DOA, but it makes sense that it would work. I might have to go back and try some of my mpeg2's again. I do know for a fact that my PC DVD player does not pause with track at once, but my set top does. Maybe DOA will fix it, though I believe that I read somewhere that you should always use TAO with I-Author.

One good thing is that coasters are a heck of a lot cheaper these days!

Haven't really had time to try. I've been too busy with my job. It's a shame when work gets in the way of fun. I may have some time this weekend or next week. I plan to take a few days off and try to "spend some time with the wife" which equals "me on the computer and her shopping".
