Requirements for YUY2/Huffyuv?

I have been trying to use YUY2 and Huffyuv to capture full size video (704x480 @ 29.97fps) on my Marvel G400 (1.52.033 vid tools are loaded with matching driver). The issue I am having is not with capturing video, but the playback.
I am using AVI_IO to capture the video. AVI_IO does not report any dropped rates when capturing video. When I go to playback the video, there are a large number of dropped frames.
Just to see what I can see, I changed the capture resolution to a lower size. This seemed to correct the problem with playback when I went to the 325x240 seting.
How can I capture at full rate with YUY2/Huffyuv? I was wondering if I get SCSI drivers if that would help? Here is my system:
OS: Windows98
AMD Duron 700
128MB RAM
2-20GB ATA HDD
Matrox Marvel G400
SBLive
Panasonic DVD
Mitsumi CDRW
