  • How does AVI_IO work?

    Hello,

I just downloaded the trial version of AVI_IO and started capturing with it. The quality is fine, but I do not understand how this software works. :-(

I always get the message "There is at least one file on this disc already present that matches the capture.02.avi pattern (I chose 'capture' as the file name). All files with numbers from 0 to 2 will be deleted."

Isn't it possible to specify a disk for capture and then simply hit REC-STOP-REC-STOP, etc. for capturing several files that are being auto-named?

    Thanks for helping,

    Markus

    Hi Markus,

AVI_IO works by creating a series of sequentially incremented files on your chosen
capture disk prior to the capture being started. The number of files created is
limited by the file size you select and the size of your HDD. For the trial version
of AVI_IO the number of capture files is limited to 3 and by default these are named
    capture.00.avi through to capture.02.avi.

You cannot therefore start a capture, stop
that capture and then start another capture without changing the capture filename
because your drive will already contain the 00-02.avi files created for the first
capture. Hence, the "There is at least one file on this disc already present that
matches the capture.02.avi pattern" message you get when trying to start a second capture.

    The solutions:

either give the second set of capture files a different name from the default prior to
starting a second capture or use the "allow capture to resume" feature check box located in the capture settings which I think allows a capture to be paused and then resumed
(check the AVI_IO site for further info)

Hope this helps, and if I've got anything wrong I'm pretty sure someone will correct me soon enough

    Simon

I use Aviedit (shareware)( http://www.am-soft.ru/ )and works fine. It captures on incremental files that are not resent in the next session i.e.: first session you get file001.avi and file002.avi, in the second session it starts from file003.avi unless you change the filename.

        Markus,
Check the assign session numbers box in the capture settings area. The way that this program works, is when you assign a disc, you also assign the file name. It will allow you to record twice and then want to record a clip with the file name assigned in the program. By assigning session numbers it will assign a new name such as "capture1.001.avi" and then your next capture would be "capture1.002" and so on. The only problem is that the next time you open it up it will try to record over "capture1.001". To get around this rename the old files, move them to a new directory or assign a new disc file name.

            Thanks a lot!

The "Assign session numbers" option does exactly what I need. Great!

            Markus

btw, where can I get VT 1.52? I have 1.54 and Display 5.55, but no copy of the old drivers.

Try this link. If not go to the Matrox website>graphics cards>support>driver>previous version of vidtools (or something like that)
