    Download Dirac for free. Dirac is a general-purpose video codec aimed at resolutions from QCIF (176x144) to HDTV (1920x1080) progressive or interlaced. It uses wavelets, motion compensation and arithmetic coding and aims to be competitive with other state of the art codecs.

    Hmm, so it is a different technology than MPEG-2.

      Why bother? There are so many MPEG4 (wavelets, motion compensation, arithmetic coding) variants already.

        Our TV licence money has to go somewhere. Improvements can always be made. It could be more efficent and better quality than MPEG-4 for the same space?
