  • Buying VCR from US. I'm in Ontario.

Can't find the Toshiba W808 in Canada. The closest is the Toshiba W804, but it is missing the Digital Noise Reduction (DNR) and has only 4 heads instead of the W808's 6 heads.

Has anyone in Ontario purchased any electronic equipment from the US? Have you done it shopping Online? I have gottne good quotes for the Toshiba W808 S-VHS vcr, but I wonder about CSA certification etc. The only costs quoted by borderfree.com were the conversion of US to CAN dollars, the PST and GST, and the ground UPS 7- 14 day shipment was free. Total cost of average quote was $410.00 CAN. Cost of W804 in Canada was $400.00 before tax.

    Any ideas???

I'd read this before you order anything.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out more later, but just at a glance, it adds to my concerns of course. I'd have to inquire with 'borderfree.com" whether they garantee against a scenario like that happening to me. "borderfree.com" gives you a quote through them, and they seem to be involved with, or quote you for the shipping so maybe they have a setup.

I am not sure about purchasing a VCR from the US now because I'd not necessarily have warranty coverage up here!

I want a 6 head HiFi S-VHS VCR with 19 um heads, Digital Noise Reduction (video DNR), and flying erase head would be cool too. Also, quasi S-VHS and/or S-VHS ET would be likely found on a deck with these specs too.

What VCR in Canada is there like the above for less than $500.00 or $600.00????
