  • G200 + another Graphics card

I am very happy with my Marvel G200 (AGP) for NLE, but have become disatisfied with it's 3D (read GAMES!) performance.

Could anyone give me any advice about installing a 2nd PCI Graphcs card (keeping the G200 installed purely for video capture / editing).

PC Spec: PII 350 (BX Chipset) 128Mb Ram

Any help or thread / webpage references would by greatly appreciated.

Microsoft gets blamed for a lot of problems that device driver writers cause, but this one really is Microsoft's fault.

In directX none of the "advanced" features like overlay and 3D acceleration are supported on the "secondary" display cards. Thus only the primary card is useful for video editing and games.

Unfortunately under win98,98se,Me there is no good way to desiginate which card is "primary" other than changing a BIOS setting for PCI vs AGP "first". The first card is windows primary.

On windows 2000 you can pick what card is primary in display properties and reboot, but this scrambles your desktop icons and is not really a useful solution either. Startup looks a little weird when w2k primary doesn't match BIOS PCI/AGP first setting but it doesn't seem to casue any problems -- but I've not played with this very much.

Maybe XP will fix this. They need somthing of real utilty to make it worthwhile.
