  • Best S-VHS VCR IN CANADA for under $500.00 Canadian.

Trying to find a good Hi-Fi S-VHS vcr. looking for these features:

    S-VHS and S-VHS ET (& S-VHS quasi playback too)
    6 Heads
    19 um heads
    Flying Erase heads
    (Almost forgot!!)
DIGITAL NOISE REDUCTION (DNR for Video)

Any ideas from any Canadian sources?? The only VCR that has those features that I have found so far is only available in the US? The Toshiba W808. If I buy a VCR from the US and it breaks, not so easy to fix or warranty.

The only VCR that comes close to those specs are the JVC's preferably these models...

    HR-S4800U
    HR-S7800U

The link for the above listed VCR's is..

Thanks. I've heard mixed reviews about JVC VCR's, but I think mostly the lower end ones like the 3800. I think the 4800,7800 and 9800 are less likely to suffer from any quality problems. The 7800 looks nice.

The only thing is, I forgot in my previous post to mention that I was also looking for Digital Noise Reduction! (Video DNR!)

One really tempting thing about a JVC VCR is the fact that its compatable with the link and other features of my 32" JVC TV.

      thanks for the link,

If by DNR you mean TBC (time base corrector) then most of the mentioned JVC's have that feature.

In your price range, the 7800 is what I would get.

I've got a JVC 9800. It's definitely in the butter zone....

By Digitial Noise Reduction, I mean just that. DNR for video. I cleans up noise, snow etc, especially on older tapes. The Toshiba W808 has it. The Sharp 100 model had it. The new Sharp 101 does not!

But the JVC 7800 and up are supposedly very good too, regardless of DNR. I was just hoping to get an S-VHS vcr with DNR.
