  • RR in Windows 2000

    Hi,
I am about to upgrade to Windows 2000, and purchase video capture/editing software. I wanted to know if there are any issues with RR-G series under Win 2000.

If there are issues, could someone suggest some other video capture/editing hardware that captures well, works with 2000, and is around the same cost as a RR-G series?
    thanks,
    Terry

There are issues in Win2K but new drivers will be coming in a few weeks to fix 'em. This was posted by Matrox so it's good info.

Thats great, thanks. I'm not picking up the software/hardware for a few weeks, so this sounds good. I'll stay tuned to the boards for feedback on the drivers when they surface.

I have another question. From the reviews I have been reading, the Rainbow Runner has been out for some time now. Is there another caputre card (around the 150-200 dollar range) that I would be better off buying?

        Thanks again.

Well you could take a look around and see if there's another capture cars in the 150-200 dollar range full-stop.

There are equal (arguably better) hardware MJPEG capture cards - You could try the Pinnacle DC10 or DC30+ series - but not at the same price. I've only grappled with the DC10+ once, and that was in a vendors machine instead of my own, and I could make it jump thru hoops until I wanted to play back. Even at a moderate 6:1 compression it was so jerky as to be unwatchable on the PC (although the stream out to my VCR was excellent). The DC30+ is WAY more expensive, and probably the best hardware accelerated analogue capture card yet produced. It's capable of capturing up to 7Mb/s hardware compressed MJPEG as opposed to Marvels 3point something (given a mutha of an HD capture system), but it has to be said that it is one of the bitchiest cards to set up, certainly not one for the uninitiated without expert advice. I don't know anyone that has managed to capture raw YUY with a DCxx a la Dutchman mode on the Marvel, which makes the Marvel (or G-series RR) a better proposition for those with a blazingly fast processor (800 plus) and an HD system capable of 25+Mb/s transfer rate (maybe get away with a large IBM GX75 here, more probably need a Promise Raid array)

Feel free to keep asking away

Thanks for your input. I have read about the DC10+, and was considering that. I think I am deciding against it because of the lack of the TV tuner.
I am also considering the Pinnacle PCTVpro, and the RR-G is still up for consideration, I got a positive review of it from someone on this board.

I apologize for all the questions, researching capture cards seems a lot more difficult than researching other hardware. I haven't been able to find a definitive review/information site.
