  • CPU Power-Soft Codec-Real Time

Hi, folks. There is a question for all of you. What do you thing about high speed CPUs? We can get Real Time performance in near future? This year probably we can purchase 2 GHZ CPU.
And second question: AMD 1.5 (not yet) or Intel Pentium 4 at 1.5 ? Raw power or SSE 2?
I think that RT without dedicated cards are very near. And you?
    Thanks.

Software realtime without a card like the RT-2000 or Storm would likely require >2ghz processors, perhaps 4 ghz or better with a single CPU. The Storm requires dualies, but the RT-2000 will run on a PII/400.

Intel is exploring a new micro-fab technique, EUV (Extreme UV) lithography, that uses ultraviolet light for making chips with the density this would require. A story on it was on C\NET's news site Friday. Chips made with this technique could run up to 10 ghz and should appear around 2005.

O.K. Probably I should say "near RT" or "RT in basic transitions".

P.D: Remember that most RT cards only mix analog signals. RT in DV codec, or other codec, is not usual. Normally, at last, all cards has to render. I'm wainting for a new generation software that benefits the new speeds and new instructions. Very-very fast previews and fast renders, RT aprox. Perhaps...
Ah, what about the new generation of Graphics Card (G-Force 3). Can help, like Matrox do, in Desktop Video? Humm...
