  • Little problem ...

    Hi everybody.
I have a little problem with my Marvel G200 and my TV.
When i play a video (ALL THE VIDEOS I HAVE and I tried with 4-5 different cables) and the computer is connect to TV, i see it in black & white but if i use Matrox Utilities to verify if the connection are ok (Quick Connect!) i see the still image whit color band.
Could anybody help me to understand why ?!?!
    Thanks

        Ciao

Many cams and decks do not put out a proper 1 volt peak-to-peak signal. My Sony Hi8 cam is stuck at just .91v and it causes this problem. In addition to this the input procamps on the G200 Marvel are a bit weak.

So....so if the VCR or cam is not putting out a strong signal and/or the capture card has weak input amps the video will go monochromatic when you go to capture. If both screw up you're not gonna get color.

The best fix is to use a small video amplifier as a preamp. In the States Radio Shack sells one for about $20 USD that uses the composite line. It doesn't take much of one.

If your a video nut-case like me you go straight into overkill mode and get an Elite Video BVP-4+ video processor ($700) or a SIMA Color Corrector Pro ($100-130). These offer the additional advantages of being able to restore the synch pulse and colorburst signals in degraded tapes. Of course the BVP-4+ does it a ton better.

I have had this problem (intermitent) with my G400-TV.

From what I can tell, the output goes into this state after a period of non-utilization (like leaving it on overnight). I am not sure the exact length of time, but the output does swtich to b&w.

To correct this, I have a couple of steps. First, I shut everything down (including external devices connected via the BOB). Typically, I check connections at this point. Next, I boot up and running the Matrox QuickConnect. With QuickConnect, I make sure that I run entirely through the process (without hitting any cancel buttons). If the output does not change back to color, I'll switch the format to PAL and back NTSC. Finally, I'll run the HD benchmark tool.

This has only happened a few times. What I did notice was that the latest G400-TV drivers seem to be less prone to this issue.
