Hi everyone. My apologies if this is too off the topic for this forum, but I want to capture audio from old cassette tapes and turn them into mp3 files.

I have a Canopus ADVC 100 and thought I could capture the audio thru it. The only way that I can think of to make this work is to capture video from another source simultaneously and use MSP7. There must be an easier way. This may not even work.

Would appreciate all thoughts and suggestions.

    Thanks.

So what's wrong with using your audio cards LINE IN and the Audio Editors /Control/Record function? Save 'em as 16 bit 48khz WAV's then use the MP3 encoder of your choice.

      Dr. Mordrid,

Thanks for the reply. I guess I was thinking that I needed to use RCA jacks because that's all I have on the cassette player.

You can easily find an rca/mini stereo jack adapter at an electronic store. Just be carefull with the adjustment of input/recording levels, before recording you may want to adjust them by playing some seconds of the tape at it's loudest part, to avoid clipping or unsufficient audio signal. Good luke!

Though this doesn't pertain to JonH's problem, let's not forget that MSP7's Audio Editor can also read CD's and capture the content, presuming it's not copy protected.
