  • Appeal for help from regulars

OK, looks like GA have f**ked the site over totally. This means that my own work for the last 3 years has been totally lost because the people to whom it was entrusted couldn't actually take a goddamned backup would you believe ?

So, if anyone has any Desktopvideoworld material archived, whether in their cache or downloaded for reference, please could they contact me ASAP. You know the email : chris@desktopvideoworld.com

Believe me, this is urgent - if I can't find enough material to rebuild the site in a matter of days, the site is going under and all that will be left is the hosted forum !

    Crappola.

I have some stuff in my Win98SE net cache, but since that installation blew its brains out last night I'll have to copy those files to a new installation before being able to tell what I have.

    I'll let you know ASAP....

        Hi Doc,

From those files I should be able to work out the names of most of the other stuff. Wish I could remember what I called the left frame that contained the menu with the javascript rollovers.

Nothings arrived yet (08:00 UK) hope I'm not having email problems too AAAAARGH. You know the ftp addy tho

Thanks to all who have sent me stuff. I'm beginning to get a glimpse of how much fun it's going to be piecing it all together again.

Please keep it coming - especially anything since January 2000, which is when the site was last rebuilt. However, anything before that is also welcome as it gives source material that is reusable.

So far, I've got ALL of the 10 Idiots Guides, all of the original FAQ's, the stylesheet and main logo, and (I love you Doc) the precious Javascript. Not that it's overly flash, but I've not done much practise recently and I'd completely forgotten how I'd done the rollovers. Also, all the original "main" news, and the post-2K "current" news.

Still missing are the Getting Started article (which needs rewriting anyway), the glossary (which is quite extensive), the links (again need rewriting)and a list of the downloads - I think that I've kept copies of all the download files on my own PC. I think the same goes for the majority of the Video Showcase files, although there could be a few missing.

Again, my thanks for your response. I've always maintained that this is YOUR site, and it's only with your help that we're going to get it back on it's trolley again.

                Chris

Good luck in getting it put back together, Chris.

I was wondering what had happened.

Sorry I don't keep my cache full for very long.
