I think the promise-raid-controllers are the best for ide. also you can save alot of money by tweaking a ultra dmaXX to a fasttrackXX:

    Good luck!

You can save a lot of heartache by just buying the Fasttrak and leaving dodgy conversions to the solder-heads !

I can confirm that the FT100 is a fine piece of equipment, no hassles installing it, not hassles connecting it up to a pair of IBM GX's. Instant 60Gb raid for a terrrifically reasonable price.

I have many Fasttraks and a Supertrak.

The Fasttrak is the faster of the two RAID cards and better for editing.

The Supertrak is geared towards large network servers and where you need remote administration and high security capabilities.

I agree on just buying one. The price differential between an Ultra and Fasttrak isn't worth the potential problems.

Hi all and thanks. I do think I'll be on the retail line as a soder head I'll never be. ( I'm already being tested to learn more than I ever thought possible ) I am having alot of trouble getting smooth playback out of the 2 40 Gig Maxtors I have hooked up to my ABIT BE6 with Highpoint controllers. I've been working with Haig on the Matorx forum trying to sort it out. But over the weekend I noticed in a post from Jan 2000, CMB wrote of trouble with the BE6 and Highpoint drivers that I'm using does anyone know what the upshot of that was? Is there a problem with the ABIT BE6? I guess I'm trying to figure out what to start replacing! Going the Promise route takes the highpoints out of play but couldn't figure out if that'll make the most sense for a first step.
It's maddening as I was cruising along for about 9 months with this set up and not a stutter anywhere. Then blamo! Ahh.. the neverending story. Thanks Leslie

Highpoint RAID chips have been problematic on many setups, especially those using a pre-370 version chipset. Lots of bugs.

            I'd go Promise....
