I,ve just built a 400Mhz AMD K62 system for my partners father.
I can capture audio with video on the YAMAHA WF192XG soundcard using the PC-TV remote control but in Avid it only captures the video.
If this is the same problem that other people are having and the patch would work I would be very grateful if I could get hold of it.

Ok, let me set the record straight here.

The patch that Matrox is providing was something we (meaning Avid) wanted them to test with one or two customers. It was really meant to gather further information to help us devise a real solution to the problem. It has not gone through QA and is not an officially sanctioned release.

Again, it was not meant to be distributed beyond a small handful of customers. We are actively working on the problem.

Guess I missed my chance for the patch - but I wasn't having the exact problem described anyway...in my case the audio lags a few seconds behind the video. Any chance an upcoming patch addresses that?

I would be interested in the patch -
The specific problem I have been having is that after a period of editing, if you
click on import, but then cancel the import
before selecting the file to import, the import button then goes dead - nothing happens when it is pressed subsequent times, and in order to import again one must save, exit and restart avid.

Not sure if this is related to the patch issue or not..

            Hi Haig,

I realize I'm way behind the curve here, but this is precisely the problem I've been having with Avid/Matrox. Any news, any direction would be greatly appreciated.

            Thanks!

            John

RE: quicktime audio. Eariler in this thread some one said to use the QT control panel to make sure direct sound is set. This is backwards from what My virgin (for the Nth time) install says. First time AVID is run it pops up a dialog box saying to set "wave sound". Disimissing the dialog box everything seems to work. Changing the QT setting makes the box not popup next time.

Other input/output levels not matching becase all the various audio dodads seem to think they need to reset the level to what it was when they last ran, audio is about the only thing I've not had trouble with on my Marvel PCI-TV (250MHz RAMDAC).

                      Hi Haig,

Downloaded the AvidCinemaMatroxAudioUpdate patch, and sound still doesn't register on the Record Level Indicator, and still no sound from finished videotapes. All "Mute" boxes are unchecked.

Again, the sound plays through speakers just fine during capture in "Bring Video In," during "Edit Movie," and when transferring from Avid to videotape during "Finish Movie." There's even that little horizontal purple bar at the bottom of the "video clip" bar that indicates sound is being recorded. The finished videotape, however, plays back video only--no sound even with the patch. Perhaps some system specs might shed a brighter light here:

Audio In--Line (no other setting works)

                        Hi John,

After you "finish movie", do you get sound if you play it back in our remote?

The output that you use on your sound card going into your vcr audio input, is this output amplified from your soundcard?

Are you using any WDM audio drivers for your sound card?

                        Haig

                          Hi, Haig,

Hate to be the bearer of ill tidings, but here we go. In answer to your questions:

                          1) After you "finish movie" do you get sound if you play it back in our remote?

No, I can't even get video, let alone video with sound. I've tried to play clips ("File" selected) straight from "finish movie," as Avid avi files, and as Avid QuickTime files--no luck. Several original videotapes play fine from the VCR through the remote with impeccable video & sound ("Line" selected).

                          2) The output that you use on your sound card going into your vcr audio input, is this output amplified from your soundcard?

Forgive me for being an idiot, but how would I check this on SoundBlaster Live? I've searched through the soundcard's literature, readme files, SBLive's mixers & Win 98's play controls--no luck finding anything re: soundcard amplified output.

                          3) Are you using any WDM audio drivers for your sound card?

None that I'm aware of. All appear to be VxD(Device Manager & System Information). Is it possible for Win 98 to hide these anywhere?

Any further suggestions for this vexing situation are certainly welcome. Thanks again for your time and patience.

                          John

                            Hi John,

                            1 - Have you installed QT4?

2 - I guess the quickest way is to connected un-amplified speakers to the Live outputs and see if you get sound.

3 - By default, 98 installs its wdm audio drivers. You can check this in device manager under the Sound Controller heading. If you are using wdm audio drivers, it will be listed under this section.

If you are, then get the latest Live drivers from Creative's site and use those.

Here are some other things to try:

1 - Output a clip thru our remote to your vcr and see if you get both A & V.

2 - Reconfigure your audio with our quick connect and then again thru Avid.

                            Haig

                              Hi, Haig,

Finally got it working, tho' I think my methods are hardly conventional. Problem might be my choice of VCR, soundcard (SoundBlaster Live)and speaker combinaton. Check this out:

In addition to the standard composite Audio/Video In and Audio/Video Out jacks, my JVC HR-S3500U SVHS has an extra jack in the back called an "AV Compulink II" I was unaware of until today. This jack needs to be connected to SoundBlaster Live's "Rear Out" jack when saving a clip from the computer to a blank video. This entails jockeying all the plugs around in the following manner:

                              During Capture:

Audio Out (Marvel cable) to Line In jack
Audio In (Marvel cable) to Microphone In
Front Speaker Cable to Line Out jack
Rear Speaker Cable to Rear Out jack

Saving from computer to videotape [this also works for capture, but there's no audio because the speakers (Cambridge SoundWorks) are unplugged}:

Audio Out (Marvel cable) to Line In jack
                              Nothing plugged into "Microphone In"
Audio In (Marvel cable) to Line Out jack
AV Compulink II cable to Rear Out jack

A major pain-in-the-butt to be sure, but at least it works. While I'm very concerned about switching plugs with the juice flowing, I'm at a loss for other options--suggestions are still more than welcome.

Also, I'm acutely aware that, in the future, perhaps I need to be a little more judicious when matching components.

Thanks again for helping me get to this point, Haig.

Hope I am not too late to try the patch. Have audio out in view mode but will not record audio to tape. Willing to try anything!!!
