  • Wich will be the first 64 bits video editing ap.?

Well , Apple is selling now 64 bits G5 and 64 bits S.O. as standard. I don't know if FinalCut 4HD is 64 bits ap., but I think that the next version of every Video Editing ap. will be 64 bits.

    I bet by:
    1.- Avid
2.- Ulead Media Studio (last version is two years old and I think that will be a mistake a Media Studio 8 in 32 bits mode).
3.- Pinnacle Liquid Edition (they release products very easy, and they work... well, they don't work very well).
4.- Canopus Edius (very, very serious firm; they aren't the firsts, but the most stable).
5.- Adobe Premiere PRO 2 (they released Premiere PRO 1.5 in Summer, so we will need to wait one year for news).
    6.- Vegas. ?????
7.- EditDV (Cinestream) Ha, ha, ha...

And, of course, one of the FIST apps. to go to 64 bits, will be, TACHAN!!!!, PHOTOSHOP CS Ver. 2 .

    What do you think?

I suspect that they will product both 32 and 64 bit versions. I'm sure that every one out there will not want to upgrade their PCs to 64bit CPUs just to use the latest and greatest..

          O.K. I Agree.
But in the 2Q of 2005 the 64 bits hardware will be STANDARD and "OLD". The first cheap CPU was delivered in the 2Q of 2003. There are a lot of cheap Mainboards and you can work whith DDR memory.
There is no S.O. and no Apps. but not for long time.
And I think that 32 bits will die with Stardand Video Frame (SD) and DV. The future, HD, requieres a lot of raw power. Double or triple. 32 bits can't perform well in this new situation.

            And remember:

New video appliactions don't work in win98 (ok), winMe (ok), WinNT (ok), Win2K (why not?).
            Only XP.
Next wil be WinXP32 bits (no), WinXp64 bits (ok).

              Do you mean CinePaint?
(which already runs on 64-bit Linux, as well as a bunch of other OSes)

Given that Intel is toying with going the AMD route of supporting both 32 and 64 bit on one die there's no real reason for producing two different versions.

My bets on MSPro. Adobe's rather conservative and takes forever to update to a new build. Same goes for AVID.

Back in '98 I was using 64-bit UNIX versions of Premiere, Photoshop and Avid Illusion... on the Silicon Graphics IRIX platform of course. I'm stumped as to why Adobe in particular won't port their 64-bit UNIX applications over to LINUX. I can assure you that Avid and Adobe developed 64-bit versions of their leading applications years ago for the SGI platform. Of course, porting to 64-bit Windows would be a much more convoluted proposition...

I reckon Apple will be the first to go all 64-bit with integrated hardware, operating system and application software. LINUX could've beaten Apple but no-one seems to be developing any serious apps for it. 64-bit Windows (Longhorn) is slated for a 2007 release...

Well, there is ProEngineer for Linux. If that isn't serious, I don't know what is.

As for video editing, I agree...

                      Read this, please:

"Microsoft is currently busy working on its latest flagship operating system codename Longhorn, but for those running 32Bit hardware you may be left out when the OS is finally released.

According to sources, Microsoft Windows Longhorn will only be available for 64Bit processors and not for 32Bit. The purereason why MS would only compile a 64Bit and not swing both ways is rather unclear at the moment. We can only speculate that since Longhorn has a few years till its official unveiling, Microsoft thinks that by that time 64Bit will be the norm and 32Bit would have fazed out."

Well, well, well... I think the same. You can forguet 32 bits as you forget 16 bits in two or three years, in 1998.

I think Ulead's next version of MediaStudio Pro should be a 64-bit application because nobody will want to use a 32 bit system in another year.

                            The key is Microsoft Windows.

Microsoft is already making the 64-bit PREVIEW version available to customers:

PC World reports the final version will be released this coming year:

So when that happens, it's a brand new race.

Everybody will be doing their best to get the "64-Bit" label on their products.
