  • Huffy Mystery

I have searched and searched through the Huffy posts and can't seem to address my question/problem.

What I want to do is capture full frame Huffy (got that solved), edit the video in MSP 5.2 and output to Huffy. Then save to VCD or SVCD with TMPGenc.

Capture is great. The video will open in MSP 5.2. I edit and output and everything looks kosher. BUT, the finished video is audio only. The video stream is nothing but colored snow.

What I'm I doing wrong? I have triple checked that I am using the latest version of Huffy and that my capture and output option are exactly the same. Will MSP 5.2 not work with Huffy correctly?

What's wierd is that I can take an MJPEG file and output that to Huffy and it works like a dream.

Hate to capture the Huffy, then have to compress in MSP, only to recompress to MPEG.

Any tips, tricks, notions or potions are appreciated.

Jezz....that's weird. I've never seen that happen. Perhaps a reinstall of HuffYUV would help.

Did you try to export video and audio seperately and mutiplex it with tmpeg? Maybe this works. Just an idea.

        Presuming a Matrox card....

        1. are your video tools ver. 1.52? 1.54 won't work, PERIOD!

        2. an installation problem of either the Matrox Video Tools or HuffYUV itself.

In answer to some of the questions/suggestions: Huffy has been installed and reinstalled several times, as has MSP 5.2. I am using the 1.52 video tools, as the 1.54 won't capture Huffy at all.

The strangest thing is that I have gotten this same behavior now on two totally different systems. One an Intel 500 on a BE-6 (v1) board, and now an Anthon 1 gig on an Asus A7V133a board. This being the case, I have to think it isn't hardware related.

Anyone done what I am trying to do with MSP 5.2? Would it help to upgrade to 6. I could reinstall Videowave 4 and see if that works, but I am reluctant as that seemed to screw up Ulead when I did it before.

I can try get another reinstall of all video tools, software, cracks and tools, but I am doubtful of the results. If I do it, just for grins, what order would be best to use?

Maybe I wrong, but I was to understand you
just use Hufy to capture, not to output?

True enough, but even with playback HuffYUV still presents full frame. It'll skip a ton of 'em and play back non-smooth, but it shouldn't look like snow.

Did reinstall last night in this order:

                Uninstall Flying Dutchman Crack
                Uninstall Huffy
                Uninstall Matrox drivers with utility
                Uninstall MSP 5.2
Reinstall Matrox and 1.52 vid tools
                Reinstall Dutchman
                Reinstall Huffy
                Reinstall MSP

After all that, it acts exactly the same.

Does someone have this working with MSP 5.2? If so, could you share exactly what parameters you are setting up for the capture. Maybe I'm selecting something here that Ulead just doesn't like -- although I think I have chosen every option.

This is driving me nuts! I finally got a chip that will capture full screen Huffy and I can't edit the son of a gun.

                  Continued testing:

Captured a small clip this morning with Huffy and saved on a CD. Then I brought it to work and tried to edit & save in Huffy with the demo of MSP 6.0. Worked fine.

I will use my husband's DSL to download the demo at home to make certain there's nothing system related, but looks like the answer is that 5.2 (at least my copy) will open and play Huffy, but will not create/save it properly. At least I hope this is the answer, as I could then solve my problem with a software upgrade.

MSP6 has been rock solid on my systems so far but...

Being curious about this thread I loaded my normal DV template and a short DV clip, set a 6 second preview and did File->Create->VideoFile preview only. Changed the compression from DV to HuffYUV and created testHuffYUV.avi. it was fine but of course fails to play back smoothly, but it does play back.

                    I then closed MSP6.

Next I reopened MSP6 uisng my default DV template. I changed the project settings by switching compression from DV to HuffYUV and loaded the testHuffYUV.avi file. Scrubbing worked fine. I added a cut and a transition and again created a new file named editedHuffYUV.avi, it too was fine. The curious thing is as soon as I hit play in the MSP preview window MSP crashed! This is repeatable on this system and I all I have to do is open MSP, make the HuffYUV compression setting, load the testHuffYUV.avi file and hit play in the preview window.

I'll try on another system later, where I can do a real HuffYUV capture, but MSP6 may also have problems with HuffYUV so test thouroughly before upgrading.

Tried the above proceedure on my Dual CPU -- crashed MSP6 there too.

I saw the colored snow on this system basically my cut and transition was OK but the "smart rendered" parts are just colored snow! This suggests turning off smart render or check always recompress when you render the edited output.

This was with an ~30 sec clip captured to HuffYUV with AVI_IO ver D3.16

I'm runing w2k, but I'd not suggest an upgrade to MSP6 as your solution until this issue is resolved!

I capture analog to DV thru my TRV120 D8 now, so I'm not in need of a fix, but I thought you'd like to know you are not alone!

Did the same in Premiere 6 got the same result with HuffYUV -- colored snow everywhere except for the transition!

Repeated the proceedure with "recompress" checked, was slower but output file was OK!

Definitely turn off smart render or check "recompress" in MSP 5.2

If you need to upgrade, I'd suggest, from my limited testing, that Premiere6 works much better that MSP6 with HuffYUV since it didn't crash on preview playback!

I use a project setup with "uncompressed" as the compresson, 720 or 704x480 size, fieldB, 29.970 fps etc. No problems. Once the edit is over I export to the codec I need OR save the file(s) for TMPGENc to encode.

Thanks to all. Just glad to hear I'm not totally losing it. The Huffy business was only one reason I'm upgrading to MSP 6.0, the other is that I plan to do DV. Have the Pryo Pro in the mail.

I will keep this thread to make certain Huffy is not one of my (inevitable(?)problems as I move from 5.2.
