  • DVD rip vs. HuffYUV quality

    Anybody have any opinions about the quality vs. time comparison of ripping a DVD and converting it to mpeg1/2 vs. recording a DVD using G400/RR-g w/HuffYUV and converting it to mpeg1/2? Just curious before I download a bunch of new software to rip and convert a DVD to mpeg1/2.

    Oh Yeah, and what about the quality of recording Huf 7x4 versus 3x2 then converting to VCD? I haven't been able to get to 7x4 with Huf and I'm thinking about taking a chance throwing my maxtor15gb-ata66 on my suspect high-point ports on my BE6-II, w/all newest drivers and hopefully get to 704x480.

    just looking for opinions.

    Thanks for your advice again Dr.

    Even though I use HuffYUV a lot for analog video I get better results ripping DVD with FlaskMPEG-DeCSS and then frameserving TMPGEnc from it using AVISynth. Tutorial here;

    TMPGEnc specific info;

    And a link to the various flavors of FlaskMPEG, including FlaskMPEG-DeCSS;
