  • Site's back (sort of)

I've managed to get at least a news page back up on a new server www.desktopvideoworld.co.uk . I'll be trying to get it sorted over the next couple of days, so please bear with me when you find that the links are dead and what have you.

I'm also trying to think of new ways to present the site (as a redesign was on the cards before all this cropped up) - ideas anyone ? Thinking content here, not presentation, but happy to accept suggestions of any sort as long as I'm allowed to ignore those I don't like

    Cheers

    Chris

Thanks Doc, I'll being going to bed in a few hours to recover from a long development session

          Next stop, new content.

I'll be getting your supercase review back online ASAP too, and the other reviews, and the downloads, Lord knows how I'm gonna get to grips with the video showcase !

Some helpful characters at Matrox have pointed out that the "Review" button shows up a nice red X on rollover (fixed that one, don't bother looking for it), that the MURC affiliate logo is a different shade of grey if you pick your own background, and for some reason seem perplexed by the neon line thru the buttons on rollover.

          Well Bless them all !

              Yeah, no kidding....

Anyone want to watch my son smear his face with chocolate cake on his 3rd birthday?

Got 45 minutes of that and paper shredding rendering for a grandma/grandpa/aunt/uncle VCD

Yo Elie, nice to hear from you.

I'm limited to 200Mb, but I think that should keep us going for a while. More importantly, I don't get surcharged for bandwidth usage, although they reserve to pull the plug if I use enough bandwidth to inconvenience their other customers.

I can't set up an ftp upload area on the hosts server, but now I'm on a permanent broadband connection it isn't a problem to have AVIs uploaded directly to my own machine and then post them to the site myself. So anyone that wants their work aired, gimme a call so I can set up ftp details for you.

Doc, Im intrigued with your offer of a 3 year old heavily involved with a chocolate cake, but then I've got a 13 year old who still doesn't seem to have grasped the essentials of eating food and staying reasonably clean at the same time. The 15 year old doesn't believe in keeping clean at all, bathnight comes when Mom and I wonder where the smell is coming from and gang up on him. The 17 year old seems to live in the shower, except to dirty 3 sets of clothing a day and leave them in obscure places expecting Mom to automatically search, retrieve, wash, iron and replace in cupboards/drawers etc.

I just keep out of the way and sneak into the bathroom whenever it isn't full of irate teenagers or animated clothing !

                  Damn...that house sounds awfully familiar

Mine are 23 (boy), 21 (girl), 18 (male toxic waste dump) and 3 (boy). Imagine the permutations you can get from that mix....

                    Dear Fathers,

I hate to disturb the party here but perhaps someone should tell Ant to change the link on the main MURC page as well. For the moment it still points to www.desktopvideoworld.com and that seems to have been bought by eUniverse...

                    Boooooooooh !!!!

Yep, that is the site upon which I am invited to entrust the DTVW code. It's only been on offer for the last couple of hours, and I have a nmumber of issues with it which I am taking up.

So basically I haven't decided to float or not with eUniverse. The URL is still my own property, so I can choose who hosts it according to a) my (your) needs and b) My pocket. The eUniverse deal is free but you have to put up with their ad banners. If I get the hosting commercially (which I have done with the .co.uk variant) then I have to pay for it out of my own purse (which is OK for the time being) but in the longer term WILL be subject to ads too. Only hopefully they'll be less intrusive and more in touch with the kind of business which we are striving towards. Ideally I'd like the same info hosted on two different networks so that I can always recover from server failures(that's experience for you)

I guess you can see my conundrum....

Isn't that some kind of carbide used for cutting glass?
