Which is exactly why I posted to this forum, not to mention HDV cams and the support for them now being issued for many editors including MSPro7 and Premiere Pro.
Having a 16:9 letterbox mode in the current P-cards is nice for previewing HD content, but a real HDTV output for editing is even better.
The gamers will just have to get used to the idea that they are actually a rather small part of the video card market.....even if they are the target of mass marketing dollars.
The majority of the video card market doesn't really respond to that kind of mass marketing and is more interested in features and what they see at conventions like NAB (natl. assn. of broadcasters), WEVA (wedding and event video assn.), SIGGRAPH, RSNA (radiologic society of north america) etc. that will benefit their workflow.
Matrox excells in selling to those markets and as such you see a huge majority of their focus being workstations, large panel displays, medical, video and graphics.

This looks to be an EXCELLENT card for editing HDV as you can run a dual monitor setup WITH component HD output for external preview. Although it will take a VERY powerful system to preview even 1 stream in real time, even with the Cineform codec. I'm only getting about 15fps using Cineform and Vegas 5 with Sony anamorphic 1080i. I'm sure 720p would be much more "editable" in terms of RT performance.
Anyway, this looks like a fantastic card.
Hmm. A pair of 20" LCD's and a nice big CRT HD display for previews and I'd be all set. Oh yeah, a dual Xeon 3.4 system too while I'm dreaming.

I've already got the dual 20" 1600x1200 LCD displays, Dell had a sale last month where I got two for $1358 delivered (they look great on my G450 analog outputs so I'm waiting to upgrade for some of this HDV stuff to settle).
Looks like this has cinched it, I'll be upgrading to a PCI Express motherboard!
The price seems very reasonable for a board with component video output at $350.
