I've seen FUD clains that HP will introduce its DVD-RW at ~$500 this summer or fall.
Given that Pioneer has real product to show and HP nada as far as I can tell, I'm skeptical but hopefull.
Based on some info in Electronic Engineering Times, as far as stand-alone DVD players go, it shouldn't matter if HP/Sony/et.al.'s DVD-RW or Pioneer's DVD+RW formats win, as its the computer side -- the RW part -- that is different, the DVD-R formats of both are supposed to be compatable with existing players. Unfortunately some marketing dweebs definition of "compatible" may not match ours.
