  • Marvel G400TV problems

    I just replaced my ATI AIW card with Marvel G400TV yesterday and had these problems:

    a) When I open Virtualdub and select "Capture AVI" I get error msg that it cannot connect to display driver. Vdub worked fine with my ATI card previously.

    b) When I open video file captured with Marvel PC-VCR in TMPGE 12c the display is black.

    c) When playing back video file I get a few secs of garbled display intermittently.

    Can anyone help. Thanks.

    My computer: Asus P3v133 M/B; P3-500; 256MB SDRAM; Creative Vibra; Seagate ATA66/5400RPM HDD

    for a) I get an "Error 418" every time I go into cap mode in VDub. I have to manually set VDub to the Matrox Capture Driver from the default Windows VidCap driver. I believe it is under "Capture," otherwise it's under "Video." It's at the bottom.

    Does B) occur for the duration of the clip or just the beginning?

    c) what OS are you running and what drivers are you using?

      Another item for (b), are you using VBR?

        As for (a), check to see if the Brooktree drivers are still there from your ATI card. I had a problem like this recently when removing a WinTV card. Once I made sure all drivers/registry settings were removed, all was well again.

        As for (b), is the black screen still around when you hit the encode button? Sometimes I get an initial black screen in TMPGEnc, but it goes away as soon as processing starts.

        Finally, (c) sounds familiar. What are the version of the driver/vid tools you are using? Also, are you capturing with Matrox MJPEG?

          a) When I select Capture AVI mode, I get error msg that it cannot connect to desired capture driver. I click OK and Vdub crashes. Still need help on this.

          b) Black screen occurs for entire duration of video file. Doesn't matter which encoding method is used. Decided to try earlier version TMPG 12a and had no problems there. Can't figure out why it doesn't work in 12c.

          c) Using W98SE, display driver 4.11, vid tools 1.51. Subsequently captured 2-hr TV movie which played back fine. Perhaps distortion in ealier file was inherent in source.

            How do I ensure all ATI drivers/registry settings have been removed? In Device Manager, there are no ATI devices listed; Marvel G400 is listed under Display Adapter but there are no Matrox video capture devices listed in Sound, Video & Game Controllers. I'm not familiar with editing registry.

              It's been a while since I had an ATI card, but here goes;

              First of all: BE CAREFUL.

              Now....go to the Start/Run menu and type in REGEDIT. When it comes up browse to the following location in the left panel;

              HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/

              Now look for a folder named ATI Technologies. Select it. Delete it.

              Now go to this location;

              HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/

              Look another folder named ATI Technologies. If present give it the same treatment.

              All done.

              Close REGEDIT without touching ANYTHING ELSE.

                Did that but Vdub still crashes when I try to go into Capture AVI mode.

                I mentioned above that my Marvel G400 appears under Display Adapter in Device Manager but not under Sound, Video & Game Controllers. Is this normal? Previously I could find my ATI card's capture device in the latter.

                  It's normal for the G400-TV to only appear as a Display device.

                  It would be interesting to see what would happen if you backed up your current setup then did a fresh Windows installatioin with just the Video Tools on board.
