RT2000 - WORK GREAT ON ABIT KA7 100

Just want to tell you guys, that I successfully installed rt2000 on my system that is considered "not compatible" by matrox (ABIT KA7 / 100).


Everything I have tested work really good, including "export and import to/from DV tape through firewire",export project to disk (no error message "out of disk space"), PAL and NTSC setting.

I have completed my first project (32 minutes video out of 3 hours tape) in 3 days of work. My system never crashed during all the time of editing (9/10 hours a day).


I also want to say that I'm using 2x30 gigs IBM hard (7200 rpm) drive in raid 0 with 370 highpoint controller... yes the one that somebody said that does not work.
The raid is working great just becouse I have the latest NOT-Official motherboard bios and the latest Driver UDMA raid driver. I guess with the latest official bios it does not work.
The performance of the disk are really really good looking at the matrox drive test.

I have a dual boot system (98se/2000). 98se is running with PAL and 2000 with NTSC. Both are set up with mega pack 3 release 2.

2000 - zero problem founded

98se - sometime the system hangs but
probably because it just need a clean install since 98 was already present before my RT2000 arrived.

My system:

- ABIT KA7/100 with unofficial bios (find it here http://www.silicondreamz.com)

- (VIDEO DRIVE) 2 x 30.7 gb IBM 7200 RPM UDMA 100 ,RUNNING ON 370 HIGHPOINTS IN raid 0

- (AUDIO AND OTHERS STUFF) 1X30 gb Maxtor 7200 RPM


-(system drive)8 gb maxtor 5400 rpm IDE

- 1x128 + 1x256 pc 133 RAM

- Sound BLASTER live (old version)

- (primary display) matrox g400 + rt2000 codec card

- (second display) matrox millenium II

- 10/100 network card

- dvd rom

- 2x17" gateway monitor

- Dual boot 98SE/2000 PTF1

- Premiere 6


As soon as I found the time I'll post a detailed description of my installation sequence and some benchmark test.

The KA7 is not on the "incompatable" list, even though it is not on the officially sanctioned board list.

All the sanctioned board list means is that those boards have been tested either by Matrox or the betas or both.

The products that are on the list include the Abit KT7-RAID and SE6, Supermicro PIIISCD, Attrend AMD K6 and ALL NLX form factor boards.

Also the 370 hightpoit raid controller is working correctly now.

Have you run DiskSpeed32 on the array yet? I'd be interested in seeing the graph....

You should post the exact motherboard and highpoint chip revision numbers on your board to help others who are feeling lucky.

It would be great if the problems are finally fixed, but until the good reveision levels are known unequivocially, buying boards with Via northbridge chipsets and/or highpoint IDE controllers is a crap shoot in which far too many have been losers up to now.

i guess 30 hours testing are enough to say that is working...

in the mean time can some one post benchmark test result using 2 ibm 30gb 7200 rpm UDMA 100 in raid 0 ??? please very curious to see numbers !!!

The numbers are important, but the shape and configuration of the graph itself are also telling. That's why it would be nice to see an image of it.

You can get one by selecting the DiskSpeed window, pressing ALT-PRTSCN and then pasting the clipboard into a graphics program or viewer. IView works fine for this. It'll let you crop the pic if you end up capturing the whole desktop
