  • VIA no more

    Hello,

I think I am at my limit with the different issues with VIA. The item that really topped it was not deciding on the various 4-in-1 driver versions, ACPI tinkering, interleaving tweaking, but the IDE issue. I downloaded the patch, but my confidence in the reliability of VIA chipsets is gone.

What really are the options for AMD owners? Is there a motherboard out there that supports a 1.1GHz Athlon or 700Hz Duron without any dirver issues?

If worse comes to worst, what (besides the BX) Intel setup works well for a price sweet spot?

    Thanks

A I815 Motherboard from a motherboard maker of your own choice and a Cpu of above 750Mhz should do nice!

    Whatever you decide on:

    Don't overclock!

I'tl probably kill wathever stability you vere after.

You could look for an Athlon board with an AMD Northbridge instead of VIA. The Southbridge can be VIA and still work OK since most of the problems are Northbridge based.

The main source of all problems is so called "noname" motherboards. Use a brand motherboard. For example. my EPoX 8KTA3 works excelent with AMD Athlon 1.2GHz.
