  • PNG Compression with Video

Has anyone actually made a MPNG codec? (Motion Portable Network Graphics). I recently tried PNG and it's quality is looks almost lossless and also compresses very well. Much better than JPG.

Err, AFAIK PNG is lossless and compresses quite a bit better than GIF most of the time.
Still people are using JPG even for 256colour images/graphs (which results in much larger files with worse quality....

EDIT: Quicktime does indeed include a PNG-compressed movie format, but that's basicly only compressing each frame with PNG, without taking changing/not-changing areas into account.
IMHO it's still the best way to store video/animations lossless, but then the compression is - of course - nowhere as good as MPEG2/4 resulting in huge files. And it's quite CPU-hungry, too.
