  • Directx 8.0a installed & PC-VCR error on startup

    Anyone else had this problem?

I thought I would finally upgrade and it PC-VCR now crashes on startup (comes up with an error, but when I rerun PC-VCR it works OK).

The reason I upgraded to 8.0 is that I wanted to test PowerVCRII 3.0 and this is a requirement. PowerVCRII crashed the whole system (BSOD).

Not sure how to uninstall directx as when I went to load v7.0a again, it says I don't need to upgrade as I already have a later version.

Has anyone else had any problem with PowerVCRII (ver 3.0)? Does your PC-VCR have the same problem with Directx 8.0a? How can I uninstall Directx 8.0a?

    When I test-installed Premiere 6.0, it replaced automatically DirectX7 with DirectX8.
But PD 6.10 on my Marvel G400 reported unchanged DirectX7 installation.
Reinstalling PowrDesk 6.10 over the existing PD6.10 now reports DirectX8.
PC VCR with VT 1.52 works fine (Win98SE)
    Uninstalling DirectX8 is risky.
    Try this:

      Thanks Fred H.

I think I'll skip the DirectX uninstall process - sounds risky and W98 doesn't need any more reasons to *CRASH*.

I am using PD 5.41, so I will download 6.10 and give it a try.

Updated my PD to 6.10 but the same problem exists? Any other ideas?

            Hi Rodgreen,

I hane installed PowerVCRII on my PC to give it a try, but it was out sooner than the time
            it took to install it.

Be carefull what video capturing software you install on your machine, it could mess up your PC-VCR.

As for uninstalling DX8, FORGET IT or reformat your HD.

There is a proggy that is supposed to uninstall it but you have no assurance.
We pass this way only once. Make the most of it !

              Debbie

I have done the same now .... Exit PowerVCR!!

Still having the problem with PC-VCR but I can cope with it for the time being. Yeh, I don't want to reformat the HD!

              Thanks for the advice.
