  • Streaming TV with G450 E-TV

Hello all! I guess I haven't been here in a while. After I logged in, I got:

You last visited: 18th August 2002 at 14:27

    LOL

So, anyway, I've got a baby monitor that I can hook up so it comes into the TV card from the VCR. I'd like to use that to stream to the web. Call it Grandma TV.

Unfortunately, the streaming programs don't seem to like this card. Windows Media Encoder gets me audio but no video. VLC doesn't seem to have a clue. Other programs say they won't work because it doesnt' have that WDM thingy. So I'm kinda stuck.

Has anyone had any luck streaming to the web with this card? What do you use?

    Thanks,

    Michelle

I was just cleaning out my inbox and realized this reply came through while I was out of town. Sorry for posting and going MIA like that. I didn't realize anyone had responded.

I took a look at that v-skype thing, but that's not really what I'm looking for. I need it to interface with my baby monitor, which I can hook up to the VCR.

Anyone else have any luck with this card and streaming from a VCR?

      Thanks,

      Michelle

        Hi Daniel,

This is exactly what I am trying to do, also using G450-ETV PAL, but without success. How do you do this???
Although at present v-skype is called Festoon as you may be aware.
I keep getting "Can't capture video. The video source is unstable or video standard is not correctly set", but I get very good video with the Matrox program. Hope you can help...

        regards,

So I understand the v-skype version worked for you. But I suppose the update to Festoon was required...
I also tried Spontania recently, but it didn't work. The video window only displayed a green coloured square (and I had sound).
Last night I worked hard, fiddling with the Matrox VidCap Driver. There seems to be no way to change the driver settings in Festoon, but I also have Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7 installed, and in the Ulead capture program I can change al sorts of settings for this Matrox driver. The video source was set incorrectly (composite video in), so I changed this to TV. After this I had to quit Ulead before trying Festoon, and fortunately the driver setting seems maintained for Festoon also. Now I don't get the error message, but I still have problems. The image consists of very distorted patterns. I think this may have to do with the video format and/or compression settings. Every time I have to return to Ulead capture to make changes in the driver settings and I hav'nt tried them all yet, so I still have a little hope I find a way to get it working.
            salut! MV

After extensive testing I got Festoon working at last (!!) for my configuration. (see my hardware details in thread).

It seems I have to revert my monitor settings (from 32 bit color) to 16 bit color.

The call test now seems to give good TV video (and sound). I did not do a real call yet so I have no idea how the stream looks at a remotes side.

This message refers to my Matrix TV card 'Matrox VidCap driver' (which was what I needed most). The Logitech driver is still not seen by Festoon, but that's not my biggest problem.

Another annoying bug remains: at each system boot Skype autostarts (I had DISABLED autostarting of Skype at Windows start, but nonetheless) and I keep getting Festoon update notices...

I don't know if this process would work, but I use it with my ATI AIW 9700Pro:

Download Microsoft Windows Media Encoder (free) from:

Learn how to get Windows Media Player 12 for Windows 10, Windows 8.1, and Windows 7.

I am assuming your PC is running Windows 2000 or XP and has decent hardware (P4-2.4Ghz) or so. Anyhow, once installed, you can create and define a profile to stream whatever you want to the internet or over your own LAN (if you have one). Its kinda complicated to set up, but once its set, its very easy to start and stop your own streaming video.
                Go Bunny GO!

Windows media encoder doesn't seem to capture here. I get no devices listed at all, (at least when I don't use the firewire port).
I use firewire only when capturing for making DVD's, but for p2p streaming video/audio here it is much handier to have a plug in which supports the Matrox VidCap driver.
I hope the bugs in Festoon are resolved soon!
