  • DivX6, codec lists and blackmail....

    Many people are reporting a problem with DivX6 not showing up in their codec lists. This is DivX's canned reply regarding this issue (spelling errors theirs);
    We have redesigned our codec to only be visible to partner applications that perform a local installation of the codec. This means that applicatyions looking for video compressors in the global list will not see the codec. You can use VirtualDub for now.

    We are constantly extending our Partners and rely on our customers to support this quest. If it is not asked to much you may be able to ask this question adobe support. (-;
    In my humble opinion this kind of coercion is far less than a good business practice.

    I'm sure that if those having problems had known this pre-purchase they'd never have upgraded or purchased DivX6 in the first place

    Pfffttt....

      Thanks Dr. Mordrid for following the DivX codec issue.
      I fully agree with your comment and add:
      Why haven't made this public in the first place. Have they been waiting for somebody to ask?

        Souds like it to me.

        IMO they won't patch this unless people bitch like hell.

        Reason: because IMO the whole intent is to put pressure on other companies to become "partners" with the purpose of enhancing their position in the MPEG-4 sheme of things. IMO by witholding full use of their codec and making this request they are blackmailing their user base into becoming their unpaid (and most likely unwilliing) agents.

          As far as I'm concerned regarding Divx 6, they can stick it up their ass.
          It wont be long untill somebody hacks it and it would serve them right.

            There are too many people in the World which needs this codec. Someone will "crack" it to work "properly".

              I am begining to suspect that there is no improvement with the DivX6 codec but only to stimulate this "partnership" hustle.

              Read here about file size:

                You can say that again! Apart from the problem mentioned, their new converter tool doesn't even support mjpeg compressed AVI. So pissed I am!
