  • Cropping input video

    I was just wondering about croping the last few lines off of my input video with the G400. There is some distortion from the last few lines and it doesn;t usually show in my TV output. That is fine, but if I do an effect, ie., page turn, cube spin, etc that shows the bottom of the video, then you see it. Is there a cropping feature in the registry. I found this in there, but I don't feel comfortable enough to hack on it myself without consultation.

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Matrox\RainbowRunner\0 \DENC\DefaultValues]
    "HDelay"=dword:00000000
    "VDelay"=dword:00000000
    "UGain"=dword:00000000
    "VGain"=dword:00000000
    "BlackLevel"=dword:00000000
    "BlankLevel"=dword:00000000
    "FirstActiveLine"=dword:00000000
    "LastActiveLine"=dword:00000000
    "Frequency"=dword:00000000
    "Output"=dword:00000000
    "Mode"=dword:00000000
    "ColorBar"=dword:00000000
    "Color"=dword:00000000

    Last active line looks like a candidate, but what kind of value could I put in there?

    Thanks

    The distortion described above is normal for analog input. When you send to normal (non-widescreen) TV, the distorted area is off-screen.

    There are some tools that can crop video. Ulead MediaStudio Pro 6 has an option to crop the video when creating a file.

      Sure, but you have to re-render every frame in order to do so. If I follow correctly what the original poster wants to do is crop it as it's being captured.

      If this works, I wonder if it could be adapted to remove the eight pixel adjustment on the left and five pixel adjustment on the top?

      Somehow I doubt it, as MJPEG demands a 704x480 frame size, and any cropping would reduce those dimensions.

        You are both right. I know that I can crop it after I capture, but I don't want to re-render every clip that I want to to apply an effect to. I could even do it in something like Virtual dub. You are also right about the 740*480 resolution requirement for the Matrox MJPEG codec. I was just hoping that there might be something that could be done. After reading this forum for the last few years, I've learned that there are a lot of smart people out there and just because Mtrox says one thing, there is usually someone to prove them wrong. I guess that this was stretching it a bit though.
