If yes, how'd it work out? If no, why not?

I can't get a slot1 p3-700 to run on my rev 1.02.
Why? Because the earlier revisions of the P2B don't support the proper voltage for the slot1 coppermines.
Maggi has gotten a socket p3 running on his P2B with a slocket adapter, which gives him some control over the voltages.
Since P2B had no user-controlable voltage settings, we're screwed with newer slot1 chips

[edit]
I thought the title said it was a rev 1.01...now I see it's 1.10...
Anyway, Asus states that a rev 1.12 is needed to run these CPUs

The Gigabyte 6R7 Pro/6R7+ slotkey has automatic voltage setups. I use them on my P3B-F's.

I have a P!!!/850 (100 MHz FSB) running on my P2B-S R1.03 via an Abit SlotKET!!! set at defaults. I haven't tried o/c'ing yet since I just added the thermistor a couple days ago and I'm prepping for a rework of my storage (augment RAID and add removable boot drive). It was a snap. I would recommend getting the ASUS S370-DL slocket if you can find one because it will use the on-chip diode for thermal sensing versus having to add a thermistor. Check out this thread for more discussion, article links, and links to other threads on the subject.

Thanks for the replies. Doc, you got anything against the ASUS slocket? Why are using Gigabyte?

Hi

For a slightly different variant, I've been running the P2B, an Asus Slocket card, & a Celeron 533 flipchip with fsb at 100 -- generally runs comparable to the athlon machine running at 750 etc... Do have to bump the core voltage though (monitor reads 1.58 on mine), which is why I chose the Asus slocket when the Celeron flipchips 1st came out -- of course there are probably a slew of choices today.

as Kruzin already said, I run a FC-PGA Celeron 566 in my very old P2B-S rev 1.02

I had to raise the VCore above 1.75 to make it POST, below that, my rig just remained in silence, ie. no POST beep, no screen, just eternally black darkness and the only noticable sound came from my HDs, spinning up.

Now I'm settled at 1.85V, runing my Celery at 112MHz FSB, giving me 952MHz CPU core frequency ...

I recommend to use the ABit SlotKET!!!, since it offers all tweaking potential you'd need. I also heard the late slotekt from ASUS would do a great job, but I have no personal experiences with that one, so it's up to you.

Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone for your input and the links to other threads. It sounds like a S.E.C.C. package isn't going to work out. I guess I'll try a FC/Slot adapter & see what I get. I sould have stated in the beginning that I'm not out to overclock. My main use for this system is video (with Marvel G200-TV and ADS Pyro, which I still haven't installed yet) and photo editing. I want it to be very stable, so I intend to just run it at 100mhz, AGP 2/3, etc. Currently installed is a Celery 400 & 256MB PC-100 RAM. I'm expecting the jump to a 750/800 PIII to provide a substantial improvement in graphic processing speed.

Thanks again.

I have nothing against the Asus other than I bought the Gigabyte at a local dealer for a good price and it's performed extremely well. When it came to setting up the other P3B-F systems: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Thanks Doc. I wish I had a P3B.

...Now for some bad news!

I called Asus tech support (because they don't respond to email) and was told that my P2B rev 1.10 cannot support any Coppermine no matter what, and that the best I can do is a Katmai 600. I told him I had read about others who have used Slot1/370 adapters and he was very adamant, almost angry and insisted that it is not possible to supply the correct voltage and not to even try it!

This is going to be my last post on this, since this is not the right forum for this problem. If a 600 Katmai is the best I can get, then I'm afraid my poor old P2B is officially dying. Sadness!!!

then call again Asus and tell 'em to shove their recommendation to that particular place where the sun never shines ...

Seriously, according to them my Mobo had to be rev 1.04 or newer, but I run a rev 1.02
Xortam's Asus MoBo is also to old according to them and he runs a Cumine

The official position of ASUS is that these MBs don't support the faster Cu CPUs. Many, many people have gotten away with slocket/FC-PGA fixes. My P2B-S R1.03 has been very stable with the P!!!/850. The CPU is running nominally at 1.7v. You can usually find many other people reporting success in the ASUS NG.
BTW, did you check the CTechNet link I linked to in the other thread? It states that your board will support a P!!!/800 (though I'm confident a 850 will work as well).
