  • Frames lost every 10 seconds

hi. I have a Marvel G400-tv running on Win2k Pro. I have the latest drivers and VTOOLS installed. I have a 7200tpm hdd which is 8gigs. I have a PIII 750 with 128 sdram. Now..

For some reason everytime i go to capture somthing off tv, it drops frames about every 10 to 15 seconds. I defragged my hdd ran scandisk and scaned for viruses, Everything was fine. I am using regular alanog cable direct to my g400-tv outbox which i never had this problem before. I even set my hdd's to DMA and closed ALL running programs including one's windows auto runs, it still droping frames. Is there a reason why it keeps droping frames whenever i capture ???

Please let me know... Thanks !

I have the same problem with cable TV signals, but it only drops 1-2 frames every min rather then seconds.

Out of curiosity, does this happen whenever there are flashes, etc? Also, are you using VirtualDub, AVI_IO or PC-VCR?

When I notice an abundant number of frames being lost is usually during scifi stuff where there are a lot of flashes. Of course this is with my Marvel G450 and Marvel G200 card. I will try recording with the Macrovision free drivers for my G200 card later this week and see if I notice a difference.

I am using pc-vcr. I have tryed Premiere/VirtualDub/Avi_Io and they both drops frames. I tryed both 30fps and 29.97fps, as a matter of fact it wont even let me do 29.97 fps it drops frames even more. I capture at 30fps NTSC. I had this problem before where it droped frames on my D:\ drive. But now it's droping frames on ALL hdd's. My tv signal is fine very clear, but i tryed a cable amp which didnt help at all. It drops frames during any moment of the program, could be a person sitting at a desk with no camera moving, it will drop.

You do know the W2K drivers and video tools are beta, and that there are a lot of people complaining about certain aspects of the drivers while others are happy ? You should not be using the "latest drivers" but rather the only currently available beta driver combination off the Matrox site (dated April 2000).

          Just to be sure:

What motherboard are you running - in particular is it a Via chipset, what is your fsb running at, and are you running your cpu at 750 or higher?

Have you applied SP1 and SP2 for W2K?

            like i said before.

-ASUS CUV4X-E Mainboard is based on the VIA® 694X chipset.
            -Intel Pentium III 750
            -Win2k Pro with SP1 and SP2 final.

I am using the drivers off Matrox.com (which means to me the latest). It also did this in win98se and those drivers are NOT beta !!! This doesnt make sence to why it is dropping frames for no reason.
