  • Is Nero 7 safe to use yet?

Wanted to know for a friend. We're spec'ing a DV Editing PC for him and I wanted to know if I should try to find a copy of Nero 6.6 instead.

Actually, come to think of it a different friend had to downgrade to a previous update for Nero 7 becuase the Nero Vision software wouldn't run with the latest version.

Nero 7 with the latest update (7.0.14) works perfectly for me, worlds better than the incredibly buggy version they released in store boxes (7.0.0).
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

It's funny that I posted this because I just now got an email from that friend who had downgraded his copy to an older Nero 7.

He's the same person who was having trouble with his ATI AIW card (http://forums.murc.ws/showthread.php?t=55295).

He managed to isolate Nero 7 as the culprit. After uninstalling Nero 7 the ATI TV tuner is working now.

It really seems like they jumped the shark with this release of Nero. Too bad, I really like it. I even bought 6.6.

I have Nero 7.0.14 running fine as well. Based on previous experience I didn't install INCD.

I would never install InCD. Packet writing is for n00bs who don't know better.

FWIW, I would never touch either Nero or Roxio software. I last used Nero 5.0 and it buggered up my system good and proper, that it required a C: reformat to get anything working again (and, of course, zero support except to take my cash). I vowed never to use a Nero product again if they can release something as flaky as that. Furthermore, I've heard from others on various forums that Nero (later versions) has caused problems with various NLE and authoring software.

So what do you use for disc copying and mouting iso's, etc.?

Personally, I find Nero 6.6 to be a very useful collection of utils.

                Brian,

What are you now using?? I've very little problems with Nero 5 and 6.6 but have no wish to go to version 7

Nero 7.0.12 is quite fine now. I agree with the good doctor, InCD is a pest.

I use mainly Ulead DVD WS2 for authoring/burning DVDs and Ulead Disk Creator for everything else. Both work perfectly for me.

Can anybody tell me what the major advantage is in Nero 7 compared to Nero 6? I am qualified for an upgrade discount but curious if it's worth it.

Someone, I think maybe Doc, posted a thread about the new features a few months ago.

IIRC, one of the big improvments is seamlessly switching between a CD project and a DVD project.

Anyway, search for that thread, there was a whole list of new items there.

Yes, but that's Nero's own list of features and I'd like to know if people have found Nero 7 worth the expense. What's the fun of all those fancy possibilities when the program crashes frequently?

                            landrover,

If you're working without problems using Nero 6, just hang on to it.
I'm using both 6 and 7 on different machies (obviosly) and can't see any difference
exept for the fancy icons on v.7.
