    Hi Chris,

Just thought I’d add to the comments above…

I’d hate to see DTVW go, but I appreciate that it takes a lot of time and effort to put these things together, something that many can ill afford.

I suspect we all appreciate what you‘ve done over the last few years and I gather that thing haven’t always run smoothly for you in the past 18 months or so.

If DTVW does close could all the incredibly useful info be put into an FAQ forum at MURC? Along with the reviews etc?

On a personal note, I’d like to thank you for answering the e-mails that I may have burdened you with when I was but a novice. Hey, I’ve still got some correspondence with Bob Crabtree from three years ago that makes for some “interesting” reading. How my knowledge has improved over the years. I’ll still ask questions and thanks to you, The Doc and everybody else I’ll move forward!!!

This particular Forum has to me become a meeting place for “old friends” even though I’ve never met anybody who frequents the MURC it seems that we do get to know someone’s personality.

Heck it seems as though I’m already mourning the loss of a good friend, but I suspect that will be the conclusion you come to.

Still I’m sure a beer or two will help drown the sorrows.

We must arrange that drink… Let me know your current e-mail and I’ll drop you a line.

    Best wishes,

    Nick

Perhaps badly phrased, but the point is clear. It wasn't supposed to be a criticism, but to emphasize that the forum is only one aspect of DTVW, and that anyone that reaches the forum unknowing will never find the rest of the goodies.

        Ant,

I have no intention of painting the MURC (or you) as some kind of bad guy. The sentiment on this end is that it's a shame to have all Chris's work over the years "die on the vine" merely for want of a visible link here on the forum page. The forum is the heart and life of any mutual help website, so it will always get the overwhelming majority of hits. From that point, it would naturally be expected by any casual visitor to the forum that if any additional resources might exist, that these would be easy to find from the forum page. This is the case with most of the bbs style pages that I visit regularly, but is woefully lacking here.

Don't take this as a criticism of you or the MURC, however, because the chances of me (or anyone else who might echo these sentiments) being completely ignorant of other information to which you are intimately familiar are probably high. The reason I post so bluntly is because a response will either reveal valid factors I'm ignorant of and which will calmly explain "why not", or else it will reek of pedantry and reveal other factors I was ignorant of.

Either way, "seriousness is inversely proportional to intelligence" and the bird's eye lowdown on the subject of this thread has yet to break out past the cosmic nexus of indecision that it has become for Chris.

This is a really GREAT forum, and I do enjoy the people here. Thank you, Ant and Chris, for the time and effort you put into it. Regardless of any stupidity or perceived abrasiveness on my part, my tongue is in my cheek, and my fingers are dancing across the keyboard lightly and with good humor.

So how bout a link from MURC to http://desktopvideoworld.co.uk/ rather than just a link to this forum?

            QUOTE]

The link is now changed, as I said before Chris and Chris alone controls the desktopvideoworld.com domain not myself nor our hosts. Personally I would have changed the domain name to point at his new server rather than leaving it pointed at a dead server and getting a new domain name but it is Chris' site and his choice.

As far as links on this forum page goes to DTVW there has never been any request from Chris, he knows he only has to ask. I have other hosted sites that share other forums all have the same setup as this one. I'll help Chris out as much as I possibly can but if nothing is said to me then I presume all is OK.

I'd be more than happy to have Chris produce articles for a video section of the MURC if he didn't want to continue with his own site as such, this is in fact how things started out with the Idiots Guides which later led to Chris starting a sub site.

While a forum is only one aspect to a site it is extremely important for the life of that site has a whole to keep things moving and keep the site active to keep people coming back. I know only too well from my own experience that to keep interest alive in a site you must keep actively posting even if it is just little snippets of news every few days. I share evey sympathy with Chris, as he knows, at just how difficult it is to do this and have a working, family and social life.

Just a note on my old site:

it's still there, but dormant for now.

It's going to change and start being updated in the next few weeks. Now that summer is here I'll have more free time to do some stuff with it, including a total redesign.
