Sony Digital 8 - Will it output digital w Hi8 tape

Hi, I had recently got a great deal on a sony D8 camera - DCR-TRV720. I know I shoulda went digital but I have to many unedited Hi8 tapes on my shelf as well as my video card only has composite and svideo. Anyway I would like to know if this camera would put out a digital compressed signal from the firewire if I ran one of my Hi8 tapes and would there be any advantage to it. Ive looked around the past archives and saw a ton of post on the pros and cons of D8 but couldnt find any on this subject. If there is any advantage to going this route ie compressed signal, then I would look into purchasing a firewire card. I eventually will anyway.

Your TRV 720 will play back your Hi8 tapes through the Firewire + convert other analogue stuff
